Hiring Range:
- Counselor I (Trainee): $50,107
- Counselor II (Fully Qualified): $56,372+

Help individuals with disabilities achieve independence and employment goals. This position may be filled at the Trainee level or Fully Qualified Counselor level based on applicant qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:
- In accordance with 34 CFR 361.10, 34 CFR 361.11, and Virginia’s Combined State Plan under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), applicants are required to have a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling or a closely related field. Applicants within a semester of completing their master's may also be considered. Transcripts must accompany the application, and they must display the date that the degree was awarded.
Considerable knowledge of social, economic, medical, vocational, educational and emotional issues impacting students with disabilities; interviewing and counseling techniques; methods and tools for career counseling and exploration; and the principles and practices of vocational service delivery to students with disabilities age 14-24.
The agency has the option of filling this job at the Counselor I (Trainee) level if fully qualified applicants are interviewed and not selected. The minimum for a Counselor I (Trainee) is $50,107. The minimum for a Counselor II (fully qualified) is $ 56,372.
Additional Consideration: Current CRC credential.
- Knowledge of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated skill in: leading groups of students; providing training and technical assistance; facilitating meetings and team processes; team building and collaborative problem-solving; negotiating diverse community organizations, agencies, and other resources; and client-focused advocacy.
- Skilled in Windows based computer usage and the ability to learn proprietary software for case management/case documentation purposes.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, families, LEAs and community organizations.
- Ability to: organize and manage multiple and sometimes unrelated responsibilities in a timely manner; prioritize duties; and exercise responsible judgment with minimal supervision.
