Behavior Health Technician – Applied Behavior Analysis (BHT-ABA)
Program: Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS)
Service Settings: Home, Community, School, and Center-Based
Position Summary
The BHT-ABA at AspenGold Behavioral Health provides direct, behaviorally-based support to children ages 2–8 receiving IBHS services. Under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Behavior Consultant-ABA (BC-ABA), the BHT-ABA implements individualized treatment plans using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles. The role focuses on early childhood skill development, behavior reduction, family support, and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment across settings.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Behavior Health Technician
· Implement ABA-based treatment interventions as written in the Individual Treatment Plan (ITP).
· Collect accurate, real-time data on targeted skills and behaviors (frequency, duration, ABC data, etc.).
· Support clients across natural environments including home, preschool, community, and center-based settings.
· Teach age-appropriate functional communication, social skills, play skills, self-help skills, coping strategies, and adaptive behavior.
· Implement behavior reduction procedures (e.g., differential reinforcement, extinction, response interruption) as trained and supervised.
· Assist with crisis intervention using agency-approved de-escalation and safety protocols.
· Model appropriate behavior, communication, and coping skills for clients and families.
· Maintain professional boundaries and therapeutic rapport at all times.
· Follow all treatment recommendations, protocols, and behavior support plans without deviation.
· Ensure client safety and promote inclusion within all service environments.
Training & Skill Development Responsibilities
· Participate in required ABA competency-based training prior to and during service delivery.
· Complete agency-required trainings such as CPR/First Aid, Mandated Reporting, crisis intervention, HIPAA, and trauma-informed care.
· Maintain ongoing competency in ABA concepts including reinforcement, prompting, shaping, chaining, behavior measurement, and ethical practice.
· Attend trainings, workshops, and in-service meetings as scheduled.
· Stay current with program policies as well as Medicaid/IBHS regulations related to service delivery.
Supervision Requirements
· Attend regular supervision meetings with the BCBA/BC-ABA for performance feedback, skill development, and case updates.
· Review progress, data trends, and implementation of ITP with the clinical supervisor.
· Participate in direct observations by the supervisor to ensure accurate implementation of the ITP and Behavior Support Plan.
· Communicate promptly with the supervisor regarding changes in client behavior, concerns, barriers, or safety issues.
· Assist the lead clinician in updating goals or treatment strategies by providing reliable data and session notes.
· Follow all supervisory directives and demonstrate willingness to implement feedback.
Documentation & Compliance
· Complete objective, timely session notes.
· Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency policy.
· Document all incidents, restraints (if applicable), and safety concerns following agency procedures.
· Use electronic data collection or paper systems consistently and accurately.
· Ensure all hours delivered match the authorized prescription and program requirements.
Collaboration & Communication
· Work cooperatively with families, school staff, teachers, and other treatment team members.
· Provide basic caregiver education as directed by the BCBA/BC-ABA.
· Support generalization of skills by aligning interventions across settings.
· Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings when requested.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent (AspenGold prefers candidates with coursework or degrees in behavioral health, education, psychology, or related fields).
· Must meet Pennsylvania state regulatory requirements for ABA staff within IBHS (e.g., RBT credential or agency-approved ABA training).
· Experience working with young children (ages 2–8) or individuals with developmental, behavioral, or mental health needs preferred.
· Ability to collect data, follow structured treatment plans, and accept supervision.
· Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to service locations (as applicable).
· Ability to lift, kneel, and engage in active play or physical prompting when appropriate.
