About AMSA

The Alternative Mobile Services Association (AMSA) is the national trade association for mobile crisis programs and their stakeholders. AMSA works to advance high-quality, community-based mobile crisis services that reduce unnecessary arrests, emergency room visits, and hospitalizations. Through policy advocacy, education, membership engagement, and national collaboration, AMSA supports the growth and sustainability of mobile crisis systems across the United States.

Position Overview

AMSA seeks a motivated and creative Social Media Intern to support the organization’s communications strategy during the Fall and Winter of 2026/2027. This internship is ideal for a student or emerging professional interested in nonprofit communications, behavioral health policy, crisis response systems, and digital storytelling.

The internship will help strengthen AMSA’s online presence, amplify the voices of mobile crisis programs nationwide, and increase engagement with members, policymakers, and the broader public.

Key Responsibilities

Draft and schedule social media posts across platforms (LinkedIn, Substack).

Translate policy updates, research, and member news into accessible and engaging content.

Create basic graphics using Canva or similar tools.

Track engagement metrics and provide a brief monthly analytics summary.

Assist in promoting webinars, membership opportunities, events, and national awareness efforts.

Support content development for newsletters and website updates as needed.

Monitor relevant trends in behavioral health, crisis services, and public policy.

Qualifications

Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate, in communications, public policy, public health, marketing, journalism, or a related field.

Proven strong writing and editing skills.  Attention to detail.

Familiarity with major social media platforms and content scheduling tools.

Interest in behavioral health, crisis response systems, nonprofit advocacy, or public policy.

Organized, self-directed, and able to meet deadlines in a remote environment.

Experience with Canva or similar design tools.

Learning Outcomes

Interns will gain:

Experience in nonprofit communications strategy.

Exposure to national behavioral health and crisis system policy issues.

Professional writing samples and portfolio-ready digital content.

Insight into membership-based trade associations and advocacy work.

Supervision & Support

The intern will report to AMSA’s leadership and will receive weekly check-ins, feedback on written content, and mentorship related to nonprofit communications and policy advocacy.
