At Filoli, we aren’t just a historic site; we are a community. We work tirelessly to create a space where everyone feels welcome and respected. As an intern, you won't just be watching from the sidelines—you’ll be a vital part of our mission to share history with the world.

The Details

What You’ll Do

The 2026 Museum Collections Intern will dive deep into our "behind the scenes" operations. Your primary mission? Helping us bring Filoli’s collection to the digital world.

Preserve & Protect: Learn the art of museum object care, cleaning, and professional handling.

Digital Discovery: Use a 35mm camera to photograph our permanent collection and add metadata to our database (Proficio).

Research & Write: Dig into the archives to write interpretive labels and update collection records.

Curate: Put your skills to the test by creating your own mini-exhibit to share with Filoli’s visitors!

Be an Ambassador: Interact with our diverse community of visitors and staff during vibrant seasonal programs.

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who loves history and art and is eager to learn. You’ll be a great fit if you:

Are currently enrolled in a 2- or 4-year college (including rising freshmen!).

Have a basic comfort level with computers (MS Office, Google Suite, and simple image editing).

Possess strong communication skills and a "can-do" collaborative spirit.

Value diversity and enjoy interacting with people from all walks of life.

Are comfortable with the physical nature of the job, which includes walking across uneven terrain and occasionally lifting up to 25 lbs.

Why Join Us?

You’ll walk away with tangible skills in database management, professional photography, and archival research—all while building a network of peers and mentors who are committed to your growth.
