Senior Model Risk Governance Manager (SRMOD014045)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Senior Model Risk Governance Manager leads in developing, implementing, and overseeing the company's model risk governance. This position is responsible for adhering to Model Risk Management (MRM) policy and framework by the model owners throughout the bank - emphasizing issue remediation, model performance monitoring, and requisite controls. The Senior Model Risk Governance Manager ensures models are appropriately identified, reviews critical spreadsheets, develops the aggregate model risk profile, and assists in the model risk assessment. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Establish, maintain, and oversee a model risk management framework and governance structure, partnering closely with key stakeholders across the enterprise.

2. Develop and implement company-wide standards supporting the model risk management framework.

3. Ensure thorough identification and clarity of ownership for models and related controls.

4. Conduct periodic model risk and control assessments using a broad, enterprise-wide perspective.

5. Oversight of ongoing model performance and management of findings, including issues tracking and escalation.

6. Develop and produce model risk reports for various audiences, such as: Board of Directors or a Committee thereof, Risk Committee, and other lines of business and management committees.

7. Create and execute project work plans and collaborate with lines of business to enhance model governance process.

8. Manage the model inventory and lead process improvements for the model risk management program.

9. Maintain regular status updates, and facilitate resolution/escalations of issues in a timely manner.

10. Create periodic reporting for the Board of Directors and/or a Committee thereof, Executive and Management Committees.

11. Assist in standardizing, automating, managing workflows, and adoption of the model risk management program throughout the enterprise.

12. Have the ability to understand and analyze complex quantitative models, risk, and controls involved in their usage throughout the enterprise.

13. Coordinate with lines of business and enterprise risk management in their interaction with regulators and external auditors regarding the model risk management program.

14. Assist, as applicable, with the development of data validation standards and assess data quality that feeds each model.

15. Assist in the development and support of an annual model review process.

16. Promote a risk-aware culture that ensures efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes.

17. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

18. Completes required BSA/AML training and other compliance training as assigned.

19. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, etc. Equivalent to a four year college degree, plus 5 years related experience and/or training, and 12 to 18 months related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and understand common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents; Ability to respond to complex or difficult inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal, logical or scientific symbolism such as formulas, scientific equations, and graphs. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Supervises a small group (1-3) of employees in the same or lower classification.
