Training and Development Intern
Unpaid Internship position. Must be enrolled in a degree directly related to Human Resources.
The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) at Oakland University is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student to join our team as a Training and Development Intern. This internship is ideal for students interested in professional development and training, instructional design, event coordination, or higher education administration.
- Hours: 19-24 hours per week
- Duration: 15-week semester (300 hours total)
- Modality: Hybrid (some remote work possible)
- Timing: This internship is available in Fall, Winter, and Spring Semesters. We will consider applicants at least three weeks ahead of a new academic semester’s start date (more lead time preferable).
Minimum Qualifications
- Open to undergraduate students (sophomores, juniors, or seniors) in Human Resource Development
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Experience or interest in training, event coordination, or instructional design.
Desired Qualifications
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar).
- Familiarity with Zoom or other virtual meeting platforms is a plus.
- Familiarity with video production and editing programs is a plus.
Position purpose
This is an undergraduate internship program for students to gain hands-on experience in training and development within a higher education setting. The intern will build skills in event coordination, digital resource management, and instructional design while working in a collaborative and supportive environment with professionals dedicated to faculty development. Flexible scheduling to accommodate academic commitments.
Job Duties
These objectives may be customized to each applicant depending on our office’s needs and applicant interests.
- Help coordinate and track faculty participation in professional development activities.
- Support the development of training materials for events and programs (such as guides, slides, handbooks, handouts, worksheets)
- Assist in organizing and facilitating workshops, ensuring smooth event logistics.
- Support the coordination of online and hybrid training events, including technical setup and facilitation.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of digital resources for faculty (such as videos, online modules, and blog posts)
- Assist in assessing educational development needs to help shape professional development programming for university instructors.
