Job Summary:
The Career Development Center is seeking an Assistant Director of Career Development. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.
The Assistant Director of Career Development serves students in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA), one of the largest colleges at Oregon State University. The College enrolls more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students across eight academic schools and includes a significant population of Ecampus learners. In this role, the Assistant Director functions as an educator, strategist, relationship-builder, and communicator, supporting student career development.
This position provides leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating career education strategies and programs that are accessible and effective for students on campus and online.
The successful candidate demonstrates energy and enthusiasm for helping students succeed, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Key Responsibilities
25% - Student Program Development & ImplementationThe Assistant Director develops, coordinates, and facilitates career development opportunities for students, with intentional consideration for the needs of both on-campus and online learners. Programs are designed to empower students to achieve their career goals, such as finding jobs, internships, applying to graduate school, and others.
Programming includes, but is not limited to, workshops, classroom and club presentations, panel discussions, and networking events.
Programs are delivered through a mix of in-person, virtual, and asynchronous formats to ensure meaningful access and engagement for students across modalities.
20% - Employer Engagement to Support Students' Career Outcomes The Assistant Director proactively builds and maintains relationships with employers across sectors, including government, nonprofit, and for-profit organizations, and identifies meaningful ways to engage employers with the college in support of CLA students' career development.
Engagement strategies are intentionally designed to serve both on-campus and Ecampus students through a combination of in-person, synchronous virtual, and asynchronous formats.
Employer engagement activities may include, but are not limited to:
• Coordinating employer and alumni webinars or virtual information sessions
• Partnering with faculty to embed employer engagement into coursework
• Supporting college-led networking events or targeted recruitment activities
• Organizing employer or alumni panels focused on career pathways and hiring opportunities
• All employer engagement efforts are coordinated in close collaboration with the Career Development Center's External Relations team to ensure alignment with university-wide strategies and best practices.
In addition, the Assistant Director coordinates the College of Liberal Arts Career Fair Committee, composed of staff, faculty, and students, to provide strategic direction, vision, and support for the planning of the annual career fair.
20% - Relationship-Building and Collaboration with PartnersThe Assistant Director actively reaches out to college partners to expand career education integration across advising, teaching, research, and graduate programs. Particular focus is placed on collaboration with CLA faculty and advisors to support integration of career education in curriculum and advising.
This position partners with campus and external stakeholders, such as the OSU Alumni Association, to create connections between students, employers, and alumni.
20% - Career AdvisingThe Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring that CLA students have access to 1:1 consultations on career topics such as resume and cover letter preparation, interviewing, job and internship searching, graduate school application, salary negotiation, career exploration, and decision-making.
The Assistant Director trains, hires, and supervises CLA Career Assistants (student employees) to provide 1:1 career consultations to students in person and online.
The Assistant Director also provides 1:1 consultations for CLA students in a limited capacity based on the complexity of support required and student worker staffing levels.
10% - AssessmentThe Assistant Director assesses the effectiveness and outcomes of career education strategies and programs for CLA students on-campus and online. This includes evaluating access, participation, and outcomes, revising initiatives as needed, and coordinating assessment reporting to the Career Development Center and college partners.
The Assistant Director also coordinates college-level efforts related to the First Destination Survey, collaborating with college stakeholders to support survey administration, analyzing outcome data, and using findings to inform strategies that improve career outcomes for graduating students.
5% - Additional ResponsibilitiesThe Assistant Director participates in CDC staff activities, including staff meetings, workshops, career fairs, information sessions, on-campus recruiting, tabling, retreats, and other large-scale events.
This position participates in the annual performance evaluation process and engages in ongoing professional development.
The Assistant Director contributes career education expertise to university-wide CDC initiatives, marketing campaigns, resources, events, staff reporting, and strategic planning.
What You Will Need
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the position (e.g.: education, communications, public administration, human resources, or a related discipline).
• Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Career development or student success in higher education
• Employer relations, recruitment, talent development, or workforce partnerships
• Program development, training facilitation, or design of educational materials for adult learners in person and online.
• Knowledge of career development topics such as career exploration, job and internship searching, resumes and interviewing, graduate school pathways, and decision-making
Employer Engagement
• Demonstrated ability to build and sustain professional relationships with external partners (e.g., employers, alumni, community organizations, or agencies).
• Experience coordinating or supporting employer-facing activities such as panels, info sessions, recruiting events, or experiential learning opportunities.
Program Management & Collaboration
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies, including students, employers, alumni, faculty, and staff.
• Experience designing, implementing, and delivering programs, events, or initiatives with multiple stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, from planning through execution, with strong attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including group presentations and facilitation.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
What We Would Like You to Have
• Master's degree
• Experience working with liberal arts disciplines and/or populations with diverse career paths.
• Experience developing employer partnerships that intentionally support student access and career outcomes.
• Experience supervising, training, or mentoring student employees.
• Experience with assessment, outcomes tracking, or use of data to improve programs or services.
• Familiarity with First Destination Survey processes or career outcomes reporting.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
40h a week, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work.
