Marketing Communications Intern
Position Summary
As a Marketing & Communications (MarComms) Intern on our Marketing and Communications team at Upstream, USA, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to various aspects of the MarComms function. You will work closely with members of our MarComms team to support departmental operations, content marketing, branding & design, public relations, and internal communications functions. This internship offers valuable learning opportunities and exposure to the dynamic field of marketing & communications with an opportunity to gain visibility and hands on experience in the key marketing & communications functional areas listed below. Availability to commit to 40 hours per week for the duration of the internship preferable.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
MarComms Operations
- Assist with website content updates via Wordpress CMS
- Assist Marketing operations with administration of HubSpot email marketing system, including monitoring performance of forms, and assisting with projects to improve data cleanliness and operational efficiency.
- Monitor and analyze performance metrics across social media, email campaigns and web traffic, translating raw data into concise actionable summaries for the team (primarily via HubSpot and Google Analytics).
Content Marketing
- Extract high-impact quotes from video transcripts to identify “hooks” for target audiences
- Contribute to and organize a centralized MarComms quote database, categorizing assets by theme and audience to streamline future content creation and storytelling
- Develop first drafts of engaging content for LinkedIn ensuring all posts align with Upstream’s brand voice and engagement goals
Branding & Design
- Create social media graphics using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
- Support the organization’s rebrand project by migrating legacy documents into new brand templates
Public Relations
- Support daily news monitoring
Internal Comms
- Assist with intranet maintenance and updates
- Support internal newsletter distribution and track engagement metrics (via Google Forms)
- Assist with the collection and analysis of survey metrics from our org-wide retreat (via Google Forms), and prepare presentations to summarize findings for leadership
- Additional duties as assigned
Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability

- Pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing or a related field.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Experience with file management in Google Drive, creating and organizing documents
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms)
- Experience with a website CMS (Wordpress, Wix, etc.) and/or and email marketing platform (HubSpot, MailChimp, etc) a plus.
- Enthusiastic about learning and contributing to the MarComms function
Travel Requirements
This role will require local travel twice each week into our Boston office for in person meetings. There may be an opportunity to attend a department retreat.
Hiring Range
The hourly rate for this internship is $20/hour.
Pay Transparency
Final offers for this position will be based upon several factors including the scope of the role, market compensation analysis, position requirements, candidate’s experience level and capabilities, fairness in internal pay considerations and will be made within the parameters of Upstream USA's compensation framework and philosophy.

- All Upstreamers must be able to attend work-related in-person meetings and functions as needed.
- In our hybrid work environments, there is a basic expectation that our Upstreamers will ensure that their work from home setups will have reliable access to phone and Internet to ensure connectivity to their teams.
- At Upstream we gather for moments that matter for training, teaming and connection. Our teams come together for occasional in person meetings and organizational retreats. As part of our hybrid work practices, this travel expectation will be applicable for all Upstreamers, even those based remotely.

Hiring Process
Candidates who advance in our preliminary review process will have an opportunity to discuss the position, their employment background and lived experience with a member of our talent acquisition team by telephone. Those who advance to subsequent steps in our interview process may participate in up to three rounds of meetings by Zoom or in person and in a thought exercise/case study assignment.
