Position Summary
The HSE Intern will gain a foundational understanding of safety, health and environmental (HSE) federal regulatory compliance requirements for a light/medium manufacturing company. The intern will have the opportunity to collaborate with other company HSE professionals to gain insight of the profession as a career option. This internship will be a combination of field work in the Mentor, Ohio area as well as computer based work supporting STERIS global systems.

What You'll Do as a Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Intern
Compliance and Training
- Assists Mentor locations with updating site policies and procedures.
- Assisting Corporate HSE in updating STERIS Corporate policies and procedures.
- Building/updating HSE e-learning training content; training matrices.
- Supports the completion of Risk assessments, Management of Change processes, and Contractor Safety reviews
Industrial Hygiene
- Assists with industrial hygiene studies (Dust, Flume, Chemical, Noise etc.)
- Support the development of the industrial hygiene system, Cority. This work involves creation of Similar Exposure Groups (SEGs) and indexing workplace occupational exposure results by STERIS location within the US.
- Import historical Industrial Hygiene data into HSE Systems (Cority)
HSE Systems
- Supports Business units with the conversion of third-party systems into Navigator.
- Supports managing the Document Control process, including cleansing the HSE Navigator database of obsolete, redundant records.
- Assists with the review of HSE data analytics.
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed
Required:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in a technical major - occupational health and safety, engineering, or life sciences preferred
- Junior year requirements must be completed by program start (May 2026)
- Interest in health and safety or industrial hygiene
Preferred:
- Previous internship or co-op experience in a technical field
Other:
- Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail
