Reporter MMJ
Louisiana First News is seeking a motivated, dynamic Reporter/MMJ to join our Baton Rouge newsroom. This is an exciting opportunity to tell impactful stories in a fast-paced, supportive, and community-driven environment. The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller with excellent on-air presence, solid news judgment, and a passion for serving the local community across all platforms while growing their career with a respected and trusted local news organization.
- Report news stories for broadcast, providing clear background, context, and accurate details.
- Research, gather, and analyze information through interviews, public records, events, and field reporting.
- Arrange and conduct interviews with newsmakers and community members.
- Review notes and materials to isolate key facts and develop compelling story angles.
- Determine story emphasis, length, and format to meet editorial standards and time requirements.
- Pitch story ideas relevant to the local Baton Rouge community.
- Receive assignments, evaluate tips and leads, and develop original story ideas.
- Collaborate with producers and news managers to establish priorities and editorial direction.
- Write, shoot, edit, and present news reports for all platforms.
- Revise scripts and packages to meet editorial approval and formatting guidelines.
- Produce and present reports for broadcast, digital, and social platforms.
- Write stories for the website and other eMedia platforms.
- Engage with viewers and users through social media.
- Ensure all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of two years of news reporting experience (depending on market size).
- Fluency in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to ad lib confidently when required.
- Strong on-air presence and storytelling ability.
- Proficiency with newsroom technology and standard office equipment.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong organizational and research skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Flexibility to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
