Flood Protection Engineering Intern (Paid)

SALARY: $28.13- $34.16 Hourly
THE AGENCY: Zone 7 supplies treated drinking water to retailers serving over a quarter million people in the Tri-Valley area including the cities of Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin and, through special agreement with the Dublin San Ramon Services District, to the Dougherty Valley area. Additionally, we supply untreated water directly to agricultural businesses for irrigation of 3,500 acres, primarily South Livermore Valley vineyards. We also maintain 37 miles of local flood-protection channels; about a third of all the Valley’s channels and creeks.
DUTIES: This full-time paid summer intern assignment, approximately late May to mid-to-late September depending on the school schedule, will support the agency’s Flood Protection Engineering section by assisting with projects and tasks such as:
- Reviewing/updating project budgets
- Reviewing engineering development referrals
- Preparing maps, spreadsheets, reports
- Participate in site inspections for flood protection infrastructure
- Document field observations and prepare reports
- Update Zone 7 standard details in AutoCAD
- Preparing and managing service agreements
- Converting plans into digital format
- Coordination with design consultants
- Meeting recorder
Clear training and objectives will be provided to develop skills for potential career opportunities in the water utility industry. Experience will include reviewing design plans, and specifications; learning about tools and features in GIS and AutoCAD; managing project budgets, and more!
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current enrollment or recent graduation (within last year) from a college or university, and successful completion of the equivalent of 30 semester (45 quarter) units of classwork
- Related academic majors: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related field
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License
- Ability to work in the field and office as needed
