Spend the summer creating memories and incredible experiences as a Camp Counselor for UCP Heartland!
June 1 through July 31, 2026

UCP Heartland's Mission is to provide children and adults living with differing abilities extraordinary care and support they need to thrive in school, at home, at work and in their community.

Summer Camp with UCP Heartland helps our clients thrive in their community and you can help continue our mission by creating and developing age-appropriate activities, planning and scheduling outings, overseeing medicine administration, etc.

You will serve as an advocate for and with clients to ensure they are receiving quality services to their satisfaction.    Providing personal care assistance as needed as well as executing the daily operations of the camp.

Our clients look forward to this camp each and every summer and we are looking for outgoing, engaging, energetic individuals who have some knowledge and experience working with children/teens with developmental disabilities.   


AS A CAMP COUNSELOR, WHAT WILL YOU DO?

• Engage Campers in activities that focus social interaction, building meaningful relationships and increased self-sufficiency. 
• Provide active supervision that promotes the Health and Safety of Campers.
• Ensure personal care needs of Campers are met while in the program, (e.g., personal hygiene, feeding, etc).
• Assist in maintaining the facility in a safe and sanitary condition by adhering to schedules and methods of routine housekeeping in coordination with other staff.
• Be available for the entire camp dates plus scheduled training. 
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
• Perform direct supports for persons with disabilities, including but not limited to, lifting, transferring, bathing, dressing and feeding individuals who often exceed 100 lbs. in weight.
• Obtain required Agency trainings/certifications include, but not limited to CPR, First Aid, positive behavioral supports, emergency preparedness, and incident reporting.
• Complete Agency driver training if applicable.
• Maintain accurate daily notes that reflect the Campers’ daily progress towards their goals. 
• Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
• Other duties as assigned

What are the minimum requirements for this Seasonal Position?

• Complete all required Agency training prior to the start of Camp.
• Knowledge and/or experience involving children/teens with complex developmental disabilities
• Reliable transportation
• Clean Driving Record
• Open to hygiene tasks
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must have a high school diploma (or equivalent)
• Driver's License and Clean Driving Record is a bonus (we will be needing some drivers)

Mandatory Training will occur prior to camp dates

We would REALLY love it if you had some of these:

• Previous volunteer or work experience working with children/teens with developmental disabilities.
• College courses related to special education, recreation, psychology, rehabilitation, social work.
• Two years of experience working with adults and/or children/teens with developmental disabilities, one of which is in residential/respite programs.
• Knowledge of and experience with adaptive equipment and assistive technology applications for adults and children/teens.

THIS IS A SEASONAL POSITION FOR THE SUMMER OF 2025 (June 1 through July 31, 2026)
These are 40 Hour per week positions--Monday through Friday 9AM to 5PM
PAY:  $20.00/Hour
