Marketing and Sales Intern

Location

Oakland, California
Hybrid or in-person as needed
Must be in Pacific Time

About the Role

We’re looking for a motivated business or marketing student who wants hands-on experience helping grow a creative, mission-driven publishing and storytelling business.

This role supports Stories to Last and a small group of related brands focused on storytelling, publishing, and legacy projects. You’ll work directly with the founder on real sales and marketing initiatives — not busywork.

This is a great fit for someone who wants exposure to:

  • client-facing sales
  • brand partnerships
  • content-driven marketing
  • small-business growth strategy

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Sales Support (Primary)

  • Following up with warm leads and inquiries
  • Supporting outreach to potential partners, organizations, and referrers
  • Tracking leads and conversations in a simple CRM or spreadsheet
  • Helping prepare proposals, one-pagers, or follow-up emails
  • Earning commission on closed sales you support or initiate

Marketing Support

  • Helping execute marketing initiatives (email, partnerships, outreach)
  • Researching potential collaborators, communities, and referral channels
  • Assisting with social media or content promotion when needed
  • Supporting campaigns already defined by the team

Operations & Coordination

  • Keeping sales and marketing tasks organized and up to date
  • Communicating clearly and reliably
  • Flagging issues early and asking questions before things go off track

What This Role Is Not

  • Not a purely creative role
  • Not an “idea-only” role
  • Not a passive internship with step-by-step hand-holding

We’re looking for someone who is passionate, can execute, follow through, and learn quickly.

Ideal Candidate

  • Business, marketing, communications, or entrepreneurship student
  • Interested in sales, partnerships, and brand growth
  • Comfortable talking to people and following up professionally
  • Organized, reliable, and detail-oriented
  • Wants real experience, not just a résumé line
  • Based in (or near) Berkeley / Bay Area, or able to work Pacific hours
  • Helpful if interested in the publishing industry

Compensation

  • Hourly pay of $20/hour starting
  • 5% commission on sales directly supported or closed

Flexible schedule
