Assistant Principal – Middle School
Rowlett Middle Academy seeks an experienced and dynamic instructional leader to serve as Assistant Principal beginning with the 2026–2027 school year. The Assistant Principal serves as a key member of the middle school leadership team, advancing academic excellence while cultivating a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that supports student achievement and well-being.
This role integrates instructional leadership, student conduct oversight, school culture development, operational management, and family engagement. The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with staff, students, and families to promote restorative practices, strengthen student leadership, ensure accountability, and advance the mission and vision of Rowlett Middle Academy.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or related field from an accredited institution
- Florida certification in Educational Leadership, School Principal, Administration/Supervision, or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience (middle school experience preferred)
- Prior leadership experience (Dean of Students, instructional coach, department chair, or similar role preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of middle school developmental needs, behavior management, and social-emotional learning
- Demonstrated ability to lead instructional improvement and analyze academic data
- Ability to apply policies, mediate conflict, and build positive relationships with all stakeholders
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in educational technology in a 1:1 iPad setting

- Knowledge of current research, trends, and best practices in middle school education
- Certification in 7 Habits of Highly Effective People or willingness to complete required training
- Proactive, solution-oriented leadership mindset
Essential Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
- Support the Principal in implementing the school’s academic vision and strategic goals
- Oversee the development, implementation, and documentation of standards-aligned curriculum documents and common assessments
- Assist in teacher supervision, coaching, and evaluation processes
- Lead data analysis efforts to improve student achievement
- Participate in and support Student Support Teams, MTSS, 504, and IEP meetings
- Collaborate with instructional staff and families to implement academic interventions
- Assist in developing the master schedule for student and teacher assignments
- Serve as appeal level for student/parent academic complaints
School Culture & Climate
- Promote the school’s mission and maintain a positive, inclusive school climate
- Lead and support restorative practices and school-wide behavior systems
- Build strong relationships with students to foster trust, respect, and accountability
- Support student leadership opportunities including student government, peer mentoring, and service projects
- Participate in the iLead Committee and Lighthouse Team, including lesson development and evidence collection for Lighthouse renewal
- Model and promote the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and Raving Fans philosophy
Student Conduct & Support
- Oversee and ensure consistent implementation of the school-wide discipline plan
- Investigate incidents and apply appropriate consequences aligned with policy
- Serve as the appeal level for student/parent non-academic complaints
- Communicate proactively with families regarding behavior, attendance, and academic concerns
- Collaborate with counselors and support staff to implement behavioral and SEL interventions
- Monitor attendance trends and support initiatives to reduce chronic absenteeism
Operations & Safety
- Assist in development and implementation of school safety and crisis plans
- Serve on the School-Based Threat Management Team and lead during school emergencies as assigned
- Ensure safe and orderly school operations during arrival, dismissal, and school events
- Collaborate with the School Resource Officer and community partners as needed
- Attend organizational meetings, including board meetings and fundraising events
Leadership & Professional Responsibilities
- Supervise assigned staff and support professional growth
- Engage in ongoing professional learning aligned to middle school leadership
- Supervise extracurricular activities and school events beyond regular hours as needed
- Model high standards of professional conduct
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of Rowlett Middle Academy
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs occasionally
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varied conditions
- Ability to supervise students across diverse settings and activities
