Purchasing Assistant and Junior Accountant

Scope of Position: The Purchasing Assistant and Junior Accountant will provide vital support to the purchasing and accounting teams to ensure efficient invoice processing, accurate financial recordkeeping, and timely vendor payments for The Bridge and Affiliated Entities.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Process vendor invoices for high-volume accounts and other recurring vendors while ensuring accuracy and proper coding.
  • Record and process utility bills, including Con Edison, Optimum, Verizon, and Verizon Wireless.
  • Manage and track the Enterprise car fleet and Wex Bank gas card invoices and related payments.
  • Run reports on purchase orders to determine outstanding commitments and follow up with vendors to ensure invoice receipt and timely payment.
  • Perform review/audit of AvidXchange (accounts payable application) for invoice and payment anomalies, under the direction of and in coordination with the Sr. Finance Consultant.
  • Research and resolve invoices causing errors in the accounts payable system.
  • Assist with account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close processes as assigned.
  • Communicate with vendors to resolve questions or concerns related to invoices and payments.
  • Support purchasing efforts and special projects as needed.
  • Provide support to and complete projects for the Director of Administrative Services, the Controller, and the Affiliates Controller.

Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field required.
  • 1–2 years of experience working in an office or accounting environment preferred.
  • Strong Excel skills required, including the ability to work with spreadsheets for invoice tracking, reconciliations, reporting, and data entry.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and accounts payable platforms such as AvidXchange preferred.
  • Familiarity with invoice workflows, including three-way matching, approval routing, and payment processing.
  • Basic understanding of Accounts Payable principles, general ledger activity, and general accounting practices.
  • Technical aptitude and intellectual curiosity, with the ability to efficiently develop expertise in AvidXchange accounts payable and payment processing software.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage high volumes of transactions and documentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills, along with a keen interest in developing a practical, business-oriented approach to operations and processing functions.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing deadlines, and maintain accuracy under pressure.
