Special Education Teacher
Pay: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
Job description:
We are seeking a passionate, dedicated, and highly skilled Special Education Teacher for an Integrated Class. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of young children with special needs, guiding their development and preparing them for future academic success. In an Integrated classroom, you will be responsible for a maximum of 8 students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), supported by a General Education Teacher and teacher assistants. This collaborative model ensures a high level of individualized attention and support for each child.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging, age-appropriate, and individualized lesson plans aligned with IEP goals and New York State learning standards.
- Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress, adapt instruction, and inform IEP development.
- Create a positive, structured, and stimulating classroom environment that promotes learning, social-emotional growth, and independence.
- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies, including differentiated instruction, multi-sensory approaches, and positive behavior interventions.
- Collaborate effectively with a team of paraprofessionals, therapists (e.g., speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists), social workers, and other support staff to ensure comprehensive services for students.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including progress reports, IEPs, and behavioral data.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, goals, and classroom activities.
- Participate in IEP meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-wide initiatives.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for all students.
- Supervise and guide classroom paraprofessionals, ensuring effective implementation of instructional and behavioral strategies.
Qualifications:
- New York State Certification as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities (Birth-2nd Grade) or Students with Disabilities (Early Childhood).
- Bachelor's Degree
- Understanding of child development, early childhood curriculum, and special education best practices.
- Understanding of the development, implementation, and monitoring of IEPs.
- Experience and understanding of assessment tools and data collection methods.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Patience, creativity, flexibility, and a genuine passion for working with young children with special needs.
