underwriter Trainee - Bermuda
Job Description:
The primary purpose of this position is to develop skills to review, analyze, accept and decline risks to ensure profitability for Markel. Communicate with underwriting management, product line leaders, colleagues, data analysts, and current and proposed producers. Become familiar with and execute upon underwriting guidelines, policies and procedures. Additionally trainees will be exposed to data analytics and digital technologies that focus on the future of underwriting in the insurance industry. Upon satisfactory completion of training the underwriter trainee will be eligible for an underwriting position.
Job responsibilities:
Able to review/rate renewal policies including reviewing applications for insurance coverage/class of business, reports from risk control consultants, financial information and other information to determine if acceptable risk and prepare referrals to appropriate underwriter.
Attend/participate in training sessions and complete assigned coursework.
Prepare quotations for brokers and helps underwriter answer questions from broker and policyholders. Begin to meet face to face with brokers and develop an understanding of broker needs/challenges.
Desired qualifications:
College graduate
Strong academic performance (3.25 GPA minimum) and leadership skills.
Some background and experience with critical problem solving, data analytics, judgmental, decisioning, and technology preferred.
