Outreach Intern at The WCA

OVERVIEW OF THE ORGANIZATION AND THE ROLE

The WCA Outreach department works to build relationships and connections with individuals, corporations and businesses to improve access to our hotlines and wider services for all members of our community.The work of the Outreach Departments helps WCA to achieve our mission of Safety, Healing and Freedom from Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault.

The Work U Outreach Intern has a focus on tasks and projects related to, but not limited to, WCA outreach materials, presentations, events and Social Media. This position collaborates frequently with all members of the outreach, marketing and philanthropy teams as well as the wider WCA agency.  

OPPORTUNITY / PROJECT DUTIES

  • Work with the Outreach Coordinator to coordinate distribution of outreach materials across the wider community.  
  • Provide administrative support for strategic initiatives that improve access to our services.
  • Coordinate ribbon making for awareness campaigns
  • Assist with Social Media campaigns and materials design
  • Assist with facilitating the use of WCA outreach materials amongst the BSU community
  • Access to a vehicle is preferred but not required to deliver materials and resources to other organizations
  • Data entry associated with the Outreach Department.
  • Data entry associated with our outreach presentations, events and tabling efforts 
  • Support the delivery of mass mailings and other associated campaigns.
  • Assists in events and campaigns that support our outreach department, including Sexual assault awareness month, domestic violence awareness month, denim day and others.
  • Supports additional events and tabling opportunities where needed.
  • Assist with other tasks that help the agency as a whole achieve our mission of safety, healing and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault.
  • General Administrative tasks including data management and mass mailing support.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Collaborative attitude and team player.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and possesses strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Personable and able to develop a positive rapport with individuals while maintaining a strong sense of professionalism.
  • Ability to be flexible and accommodating.
  • Excellent verbal, written and record keeping skills. Confidence to speak in public or virtually to small and large groups of community members in a variety of settings.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations, and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Experience with Canva and social media preferred, but should be able to demonstrate a good understanding of best practices in design, social media and other engagement platforms.
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to professionally represent the WCA to the public.
  • Strong computer skills; proficiency in Google Suite is preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Our office is open between 9-5pm Monday - Friday, and your 10 hours per week must be within this timeframe. This role may require occasional weekend, early morning, and/or evening hours. 
  • Approximately 75% of time is spent on location, indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. Up to 25% of time is dedicated to travel time and attendance at outside activities.
  • Approximately 75% of time is spent sitting at a desk or workstation.
  • Approximately 25% of time is spent standing, walking and bending.
  • Occasionally lifts up to 25 lbs.
  • Should possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation necessary to attend off-site meetings/conferences/events as well as visiting various WCA properties.
