Engineering Math Specialist

The College of Engineering is looking for an Engineering Math Specialist

On Campus ACA variable position

About the Engineering Math Resource Center:


Purpose: Help students become self-sufficient learners by (1) building confidence in mathematical capability, (2) presenting math in an engineering context, and (3) connecting students through teaching opportunities.


The Engineering Math Resource Center (EMRC) is a unique center developed for engineering students at Utah State University. Its role is to provide a bridge for students between the math they learn early on in their undergraduate degree and the engineering principles they explore in later courses. Students that visit the EMRC have been shown to be nearly twice as likely to persist in engineering than those that do not. Our work makes a difference!


Characteristics of an Engineering Math Specialist: 

We are looking for undergraduates in all majors of the College of Engineering that are:
• Dedicated to helping the Math Resource Center fulfill its purpose
• Eager to improve their understanding of math concepts
• Focused on helping their peers succeed in engineering
• Demonstrating capabilities of balancing work and school
• Finished with fundamental math courses
• Able to contribute to and work well in a team environment


Responsibilities: 

Engineering Math Specialists have the following responsibilities (listed in order of emphasis) in the EMRC:
• Teach and provide resources to students visiting the EMRC
• Review concepts from undergraduate mathematics courses
• Engage with team projects and goals
• Develop themselves professionally
• Attend scheduled team meetings

Other Requirements:
• Strong GPA (≈ 3.5)
• Graduating Spring 2027 - Fall 2029
• Minimum of 8 hours per week to work
