OVERVIEW 

At Blue Raster, we pride ourselves in developing interactive web and mobile mapping applications and tools that help our clients solve, clarify, and visualize many of the world’s critical challenges. Based in the Court House neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia, Blue Raster supports both in-office and remote work arrangements. We offer a friendly, collaborative environment with training opportunities and support for personal and career growth. Team members work on a variety of concurrent projects with clients across sectors including Conservation, Health, Government, Global Affairs, and Education. THE POSITION 

We are looking for a GIS Intern to join our team in Arlington, VA this summer. This position requires working onsite at our office in the Court House neighborhood 2 days per week. Candidates must be local to the Washington DC metro area. You'll work with a talented team to deliver engaging web and mobile mapping applications that have a direct impact on our clients and their global missions. Interns typically start in May and go through mid-August, but start and end dates are flexible. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Working with internal and external clients to acquire and process, analyze, and visualize data 
  • Preparing GIS data for use in interactive web mapping applications 
  • Testing applications and providing feedback to the development team 
  • Research and requirements gathering 
  • Project write-ups and blog post support 

Requirements

  • Experience using Esri Products 
  • Keen interest in learning new technology  
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Coursework in Geography/GIS or related discipline; equivalent experience will be considered. 
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States 

 

PROCESS OVERVIEW 

Selected candidates will be contacted for a 30-minute virtual interview. We want to hear about how you've applied GIS outside of the classroom and what unique strengths you bring to our team. Our interns are typically upper-level undergraduate students with a strong foundation in GIS who want to learn how industry professionals use these tools in real-world applications.
