Position: Licensed 6th Grade Science Teacher
School Year: 2026-2027
Location: Carbondale Middle School
Reports to: Carbondale Middle School Principal
Classification: Certified Exempt - Full-Time (1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week) 
Contract Period: 185 working days.

Salary Range

  • *$54,000 to $83,500 (Based on education and years of relevant teaching experience) *The annual salary listed above is based on a full-time, 8-hour workday (FTE 1) and a full working calendar. For positions with less than a full FTE or reduced hours, such as part-time or late-start positions, the salary will be prorated accordingly. Certified Salary Schedule

Position Overview

  •  This teacher will teach four sections of 6th grade science, using a scope and sequence of the NGSS science standards developed by the RFSD Science team.
  • Candidates must have a firm grasp of standards-based instruction and backward design principles with the skills to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.  They must be able to manage the classroom positively, with efficient classroom procedures and routines. They should be able to employ strategies that make science accessible, engaging, and challenging.  They ?should also have knowledge of best practice of reading and writing in the content area.
  • In addition to teaching Science, this teacher will be a crew leader for a group of students over the course of the year.  As? crew leader, the teacher ?serves as a student advocate, acts as the primary contact point between parents and the school, creates meaningful relationships and experiences, and monitors and supports student progress both academically and socially through engaging activities and lessons that promote strong character skills??.?  The teacher will also teach one intervention/enrichment class that meets every other day.

Education and Licensing Guidelines

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Active Colorado teacher license, authorization, or the ability to obtain
  • Endorsement in Science (6-12), or the ability to obtain
  • Official transcripts must be provided upon hire. For international transcripts, an evaluation is required through a member organization of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES)
  • Visa candidates: An initial (3-year) license is the minimum requirement for employment offers

Physical Requirements 

  • May include, standing and walking for extended periods; bend, stoop, and lift materials; reach for supplies on high shelves; use manual dexterity for tasks like writing and using technology; communicate clearly and effectively with students; climb stairs in multi-level buildings.
