Position: Licensed English Language Development (ELD) Teacher
School Year: 2026-2027
Location: Basalt Middle School
Reports to: Basalt Middle School Principal
Classification: Certified Exempt - Full-Time (1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week) 
Contract Period: 185 working days.

Salary Range

  • *$54,000 to $83,500 (Based on education and years of relevant teaching experience) *The annual salary listed above is based on a full-time, 8-hour workday (FTE 1) and a full working calendar. For positions with less than a full FTE or reduced hours, such as part-time or late-start positions, the salary will be prorated accordingly. Certified Salary Schedule

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills and competence in Teaching English to emerging bilingual students at the Newcomer, ELD 2, and ELD 3 levels.

  • Plan, organize and provide instruction that is aligned with District outcomes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the content, central concepts, tools of inquiry, appropriate evidence-based instructional practices of the disciplines being taught.
  • Promote student development in the areas of literacy and mathematics.
  • Make instruction and content relevant to students and connect students' background and contextual knowledge with new information being taught.
  • Integrate and utilize technology in instruction to maximize student learning.
  • Differentiate instruction to ensure that all students are progressing; proactively plan intervention strategies as necessary.
  • Provide opportunities for students to complete high quality projects that challenge them to pursue a passion, demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving, put forth effort and engage in authentic (real-world) learning.
  • Other related primary duties and responsibilities may be assigned. 

Education and Licensing Guidelines

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Active Colorado teacher license, authorization, or the ability to obtain
  • Endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education, or the ability to obtain
  • This position requires the completion of the READ ACT Training.
  • Official transcripts must be provided upon hire. For international transcripts, an evaluation is required through a member organization of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES)
  • Visa candidates: An initial (3-year) license is the minimum requirement for employment offers

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with middle school students, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience teaching English language learners (ELLs) in a secondary school setting.
  • A deep understanding of second language acquisition theories and the most effective methods for teaching English to middle school students.
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of ELL students, providing tailored support that promotes language growth at various proficiency levels.
  • A strong collaborator, able to work effectively with general education teachers and support staff to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment that addresses the academic, linguistic, and social needs of English learners.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive, trusting relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A patient, creative, and adaptable educator who is passionate about working with adolescents and embraces the challenges and rewards of teaching in a culturally diverse classroom.
