The Undergraduate Intern position is a developmental assignment that provides interns with real-time work projects, leadership development opportunities, as well as involvement in corporate social responsibility. Work projects involve assignments that are relevant to American’s current business needs and opportunities. Interns are afforded travel privileges enabling them to connect to the international and domestic destinations that American Airlines serves.

This internship focuses on providing real-world business exposure, on-the-job training and the opportunity to explore various functions within the department. A primary project will be assigned, aimed at advancing the corporate goals of improving efficiency, achieving cost savings, and enhancing customer satisfaction. You will have the opportunity to present your findings and recommendations to the senior leadership team.
Team Exposure:
You’ll be assigned to one of the following teams:
• Resource Planning - strategically identify future resources needs and improvement opportunities by using demand projections and historical data; develop solutions to promote operational efficiency
• Airport & Contact Center Training - focus on improving efficiency, effectiveness, and overall performance by equipping team members with the skills and knowledge; implement best practices and continuous improvement methodologies
• Strategy & Performance Analytics - focus on process optimization and drive ongoing enhancement to meet and exceed business goals; define key performance metrics and continuously track performance; interpret data and identify patterns by using statistical and analytical methods; analyze performance data to determine effectiveness, efficiency, and overall success
• Operational Excellence - focus on assisting and enhancing the day-to-day operations to ensure efficient performance and operation; identify and provide resources and tools that assist team members in operations; drive continuous improvement in operation with strong emphasis on promoting safety, regulatory compliance, and service reliability across airport functions
• Operations Administration – focus on managing workforce compliance and operational continuity; monitor and enforce adherence to labor regulations, union agreements, and internal policies
• Inflight Dining Operations – dedicate to enhancing customer experience and satisfaction throughout their journey inflight. Ensure reliable vendor performance, drives operational efficiency, and develop strategic initiatives to optimize service delivery and generate revenue
• Business Partner Performance – Ensure partner activities align with company objectives, expectations, and regulatory requirements. Monitors and evaluates the performance of external business partners and vendors to ensure service quality, reliability, and compliance.
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
• Pursuing a degree in Aviation, Business, Engineering, or related field
o Example: Business Administration, Business Analytics, Communications, Data Science, Educations, Human Resources, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Project Management, Supply Chain Management
• Refined skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Demonstrated analytical skills, including the ability to assemble information, extract pertinent facts, draw logical conclusions, and present recommendations
• Interest in optimization, problem-solving and process improvement
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively, meet deadlines, and shift priorities appropriately, Able to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment
• Ability to work well within a team office and operational environment; required 5 days in the office except traveling for business
• Be willing to travel to stations
• Intermediate written and verbal communication skills inclusive of peer to peer and upward leadership
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
• Familiarity with project management tools (Asana, MS Planner…etc.)
• Understanding of data visualization tools Tableau, PowerBi
• Python with quantitative background, SQL, Alteryx
• Exposure to Lean Six Sigma, Agile, or other project methodologies
• Understanding of KPIs and performance metrics
