Biology Teacher

Position Posting: Biology Teacher (2 Positions)

Location: Dover Area High School

Position Summary

The Dover Area School District is seeking two engaging and student-centered Biology Teachers for Dover Area High School for the 2026–2027 school year. The Biology Teacher is responsible for delivering standards-aligned science instruction that promotes scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and real-world application of biological concepts.

The successful candidate will create an active learning environment that includes laboratory investigation, collaborative learning, and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of a diverse student population.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver instruction aligned with Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Science
  • Teach biology concepts including cellular processes, genetics, ecology, evolution, and human body systems
  • Develop and implement hands-on laboratory investigations and inquiry-based activities
  • Differentiate instruction to meet varied learning needs and academic levels
  • Prepare students for state and local assessments as applicable

Laboratory & Safety

  • Maintain a safe laboratory environment in accordance with school and state safety procedures
  • Instruct students in proper laboratory techniques and safety expectations
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain lab materials, equipment, and chemical storage
  • Follow all district and safety protocols related to laboratory use and supervision

Assessment & Student Progress

  • Monitor and assess student learning using formative and summative assessments
  • Provide timely feedback and maintain accurate grade records
  • Use assessment data to guide instruction and intervention
  • Collaboration
  • Collaborate with science department members on curriculum, assessments, and instructional practices
  • Work with special education teachers to implement accommodations and modifications
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding student progress
  • Participate in IEP meetings and support inclusive practices as needed

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and team planning
  • Maintain classroom procedures and a positive learning environment
  • Support school initiatives and building expectations

Qualifications

  • Valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate in Biology (7–12) or General Science (7–12) with ability to teach Biology

 

Terms of Employment

Full-time, 190-day position

Salary and benefits per the Dover Area Education Association Agreement

Start Date: August 2026
