Gallery Host

Gallery hosts are the most visible team members at the museum and directly support amazing visitor experiences at the Stanley Museum of Art. Gallery hosts spend shifts at the museum’s Welcome Desk, greeting guests, introducing the museum and works in the collection, communicating visitor guidelines, and broadly contributing to the success of museum operations and events.

We are looking for a student to start over spring break and continue through the rest of the spring semester (with the option to continue over summer and continuing semesters based on successful integration into the team). For the spring semester, the student must be available for the following shifts:

  • Thursdays, 3 - 8 pm (5 hours)
  • Saturdays, 1 - 5 pm (4 hours)

Ideally, the new hire will start work over spring break (beginning either Friday, 3/13 Monday, 3/16, or Tuesday, 3/17). This student must have availability to work over the week of spring break--up to 20+ hours in between Saturday, 3/14 and Sunday, 3/22.

Compensation and Hours

Compensation: Starting at $13/ hr. Students participate in performance reviews each year and receive 50 cent raises upon each consecutive year of employment dependent on their review.

Student can expect to work the Thursday and Saturday shift every week, with the option to pick up shifts from other coworkers or during events as desired. In future semesters, students may submit their preferences for shifts worked, and typically will work between 10 and 15 hours per week.

Shifts align with public gallery hours, with occasional opportunity for hours outside this timeframe for private events, team meetings, and other opportunities. All shifts will be at least 3 hours long. Students must be available for at least one 3-or-more-hour shift during the work week time frame (Tues, Wed, Thurs, or Fri 9:30 – 4:30).
