The Coleman Fellowship is a new, competitive opportunity that brings together ambitious undergraduates who share an interest in pediatrics and family medicine and are motivated to explore medical careers through hands-on learning and clinical exposure. 

In partnership with programs at Duke, Harvard, Stanford, and Princeton, UVA’s Coleman Fellowship provides rising 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students with funding, mentorship, and immersive experiences that lay a strong foundation for impact in the field. Through shared experiences, convenings, and reflection, Coleman Fellows will learn alongside peers while exploring how pediatrics and family medicine align with long-term goals and career plans. All Coleman Fellows carry a common interest in pediatric and family medicine best practices.

Eligibility

• Rising 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year undergraduate student enrolled full-time at UVA
• Good academic standing; Overall GPA > 3.0
• Clear disciplinary record
• Meet internship criteria of the host organization
• Ability to complete an internship reflection course: UNST 3910: Self & Organizations or UNST 3920: Teams, Leadership, and Organizations in Fall 2026
• Meet internship hour requirements (Full-time = 40 hrs / 10 weeks or Part-time = 20 hrs / 8 weeks)
• Must have a clear interest in pediatrics and family medicine

How to Apply:
The Coleman Fellowship application is a multi-step process and allows for both pre-selected and self-selected internships.

Pre-Selected Application Process

1. Review Internships (internships sourced by Coleman): Search available internships in Handshake under Coleman Fellowship: in Jobs. 
2. Prep Application Materials: Refresh your résumé and secure an unofficial copy of your transcript.
3. Submit Résumé and Transcript via Handshake: Under Jobs in Handshake, search for "UVA Coleman Fellowship - Summer 2026 Application" to submit your résumé and transcript. 
4. Complete Application Questions via Qualtrics: Submit your application via the "Coleman Fellowship Summer 2026 Student Application" in Qualtrics.
5. If Pre-Selected, Conduct an Interview with the Coleman Team: If pre-selected, you will be prompted to schedule a follow-up virtual interview with a Coleman team member via Handshake. 
6. If Matched, Conduct an Interview with your Prospective Internship Site Supervisor. 
7. If Selected, Submit Program Acceptance and Commitment Form.

Self-Selected Application Process

1. Secure a Clinical Experience Focused on Pediatrics and Family Medicine: Ensure that the experience meets the program's internship requirements. 
2. Prep Internship Confirmation Letter: Ask your supervisor to complete the internship confirmation letter that will be uploaded in the application process. 
3. Prep Application Materials: Refresh your résumé and secure an unofficial copy of your transcript.
4. Submit Résumé, Transcript, and Internship Confirmation Letter via Handshake: Under Jobs in Handshake, search for "UVA Coleman Fellowship - Summer 2026 Application" to submit your résumé, transcript, and internship confirmation letter.
5. Complete Application Questions via Qualtrics: Submit your application via the "Coleman Fellowship Summer 2026 Student Application" in Qualtrics.
6. If Pre-Selected, Conduct an Interview with the Coleman Team: If pre-selected, you will be prompted to schedule a follow-up virtual interview with an Coleman team member via Handshake.
