Part-Time Early Interventionist
WORLD OF WORDS (WOW) EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES is looking for an early intervention teacher to join our team. Candidates from related fields (e.g., speech-language pathology assistants, special education teachers) can be considered. The position starts as part-time, but can increase to full-time, and it can have a flexible schedule.
Job description:
- Provide early intervention services in the child's natural environment (home, daycare, preschool, community play groups, etc.) and/or at our early learning center
- Run early intervention group classes at our early learning center
- Target all areas of development (communication, cognition, social-emotional, motor, adaptive/self-help), based on the child's individual needs
- Demonstrate developmentally appropriate activities for the parent/caregiver
- Demonstrate the use of developmentally appropriate materials
- Provide parent/caregiver training in the use of play as a tool for intervention
- Provide parent/caregiver training in developmentally appropriate activities
- Provide parent/caregiver training on how to target specific areas of development in various day-to-day activities
- Conduct assessment in all areas of development, using both informal (e.g., observation) and formal (e.g., Developmental Assessment of Young Children) assessment tools
- Monitor the child's progress in all areas of development
- Consult with specialists as needed, based on the child's individual needs
- Participate in staff training
Current class schedule:
Morning classes: Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Saturdays from 9-11am
Afternoon classes: Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30pm, and Saturdays from 12:30-2:30pm
Job qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in early childhood development or related field (e.g., child development, speech-language pathology, psychology)
- Twelve or more early childhood education (ECE or ECSE) units
- Must possess or be able to obtain Department of Justice Fingerprint Clearance
- Must possess or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)
- Experience working with young children with disabilities
- Must have valid CA Driver's License and reliable transportation
- Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Chinese skills
- Ability to complete coursework in early intervention or early childhood special education –OR– possess one of the following: California Education Specialist Credential, Added Authorization in Early Childhood Special Education, or Certificate in Early Intervention
- Experience and/or training in working with families and/or daycare providers
- Experience and/or training in providing parent/caregiver training
