Summer Writing Residency

English Graduate Student Summer Writing Residency

The Summer Writing Residency is open to English graduate students who are in good standing in the department, have completed their first year, and are making strong progress toward their degrees. All students who meet these qualifications are encouraged to apply.

This residency will run for 8 weeks, from May 4 to June 26. In that time, you would maintain a timeline that you have set, generate relevant products, and meet four times with your three-person Residency Group. Students accepted into the program will be paid $20/hour for their time, up to $1000 (fifty hours of work).

If interested, please apply by sending a letter of interest that includes a summary of where you are in your thesis as well as what you hope to accomplish during the Residency. Please include a detailed week-by-week timeline that indicates how you will allocate hours each week to your thesis. Hours could include time writing, reading, and/or researching. Each student’s plan of action will look different and should be tailored to what they need to focus on this summer. The timeline must also include plans to meet, in person or over Zoom, with your Residency Group four times. These meeting times count as paid time. Finally, the plan must include two check-ins with the DGS where you submit documents that demonstrate timeline progress as well as a final, one page, summary of the completed during the Residency as it relates to the plan
