Community Economic Development Facilitator in Fiji

We are looking for U.S. citizens who want to be a part of something bigger and are willing to go the distance to make a difference. Is that you?

In more than 60 countries, Peace Corps Volunteers are putting their purpose, passion, and skills to work in partnership with welcoming host communities – growing, teaching, learning, and making change together.

As a Peace Corps Volunteer, you'll live and work alongside community members on locally prioritized projects, receiving a stipend and other support as you immerse yourself in a new culture. You’ll build relationships, exchange knowledge, and help transform lives for generations.

Project description

Fiji is a lower middle-income country whose economy is largely supported by tourism and agriculture. The government is interested in fostering economic growth opportunities and more jobs. There is an abundance of resources in country, but community members lack the necessary skills to start and grow a successful business. Additionally, cultural obligations to share with extended family reduces a community member’s personal earnings, which impacts their ability to launch additional projects or business ideas. Other challenges include the distance between rural communities and urban business centers, internet coverage, and emigration.

As a Community Economic Development Facilitator, you will collaborate with community-based groups—such as women’s and youth groups—to improve project design and management skills. You will also support individuals and families to create income-generating activities and gain related money management skills.
