The BAS Applications Engineer is a salaried full-time position.
Functions and Responsibilities
- Responsible for project engineering per HDC Automation standards, project specifications, project scope of work, and quality control methods.
- Responsible for the sequence of operations which meet the project requirements.
- Possesses knowledge of air conditioning systems and controls.
- Applies knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Responsible for delivery of accurate system design drawings covering all aspects of hardware engineering: Field device and instrumentation selection, valve sizing, power supply sizing, control system network layout and optimization, wiring details, and design of interface with mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Responsible for project design at or below estimated budget cost. Responsible for coordination with project estimator and project manager.
- Responsible for maintaining project deliverables on schedule and per strict deadlines.
- Responsible for creating installation drawings, submittal package, as-built drawings, and final validation of system operation.
- Responsible for the development of software applications and the complete software design of the BAS model.
- Responsible for the design and configuration of the Building Management System (BMS) interface including graphics, point alarms, occupancy schedules, point histories, and all other aspects of the BMS.
- Responsible for understanding, the operation of packages systems, the integration of such systems, and testing the integrated operation of systems.
- Responsible for collaborating with customer’s IT personnel on software deployment, licensing, cyber security, secure remote access, SSL certificates, alarm email notifications, software maintenance, backup systems, disaster recovery, and other IT functions.
- Provides engineering direction and support to other team members.
- Supports field engineers and technicians with the startup and checkout of systems. Performs on site startup and checkout of complex systems when required.
- Provides customer training.
- Manages multiple projects and tasks.
- Maintains customer satisfaction by investigating concerns, providing technical support, implementing corrective action, and communication with team members, as needed, and providing customer feedback.
- Some travel with occasional overnight stays.
- Flexibility to work outside normal work hours/weekends, as required.
- Responsible for maintaining company standards, templates, and continuously working on process improvements, application enhancements, and research for new solutions.
Technical Skills & Job Requirements (Qualifications)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or equivalent work experience.
- Expert level computer skills including Microsoft office, Bluebeam Revu, and Google Workplace apps.
- Proficient with using AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio to create or edit control drawings and templates.
- Basic knowledge in computer systems networking architecture and functionality.
- Experience with IT technology Including: IT network topologies, IT network components, and IP addressing is preferred.
- Computer programming experience is required.
- Familiarity with the concepts of new construction, renovation/retrofit, and service project management.
- Experience in and knowledge of contracting processes associated with the installation of building automation systems and managing subcontractors.
- Understanding of mechanical systems and HVAC equipment operation, the ability to interpret sequences of operation, and implement efficient and safe equipment operation methods.
- Familiar with Variable Frequency Drives and proper sizing of a VFD solution based on the application.
- Proficient in reading construction drawings and project specifications. The ability to interpret the design requirements of the mechanical, electrical, and DDC control systems specified as well as comprehend technical documents, equipment submittals, and instructional manuals.
- Tridium/Niagara platform experience.
- Working knowledge of BACnet, LonWorks, and Modbus communication protocols.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal instruction and supervision.
- Ability to pass a drug and background screening is required.
- Ability to drive and maintain a clean driving record.
- Office position with minimal field work. In some cases, travelling to a site to complete an engineering survey is necessary during the system design process for a retrofit solution.
