Government Affairs Intern

Summary:

Pacific Seafood is seeking a motivated Government Affairs Intern to support the department through research, policy monitoring, and strategic communication efforts. Key functions include identifying government purchasing opportunities, assisting with internal Political Action Committee (PAC) program materials, and providing clear communications for internal stakeholders. The intern will also track policy areas affecting operational teams and investigate issues and opportunities relevant to internal department partners. This role offers hands-on experience at the intersection of public policy, government affairs, and government market development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Government Affairs team’s mission to build strategic engagement with policymakers, regulatory agencies, and key industry stakeholders.
  • Research government purchasing pathways and procurement initiatives, with an emphasis on increasing U.S. seafood utilization in schools, institutional dining, and federal programs.
  • Conduct policy research and monitor legislative or regulatory developments that impact company operations.
  • Assist in creating materials, presentations, and communications for the internal PAC program.
  • Synthesize large volumes of research into concise, actionable insights for internal teams.
  • Build foundational knowledge of government procurement processes and market opportunities.
  • Collaborate professionally with internal partners and external stakeholders.
  • Support additional departmental projects related to government market development and public policy strategy.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

What You Bring to Pacific Seafood

Required:

  • Actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, with a graduation date no later than June of 2026, in:
    • Public Policy
    • Political Science
    • Business
    • Economics
    • Or a closely related field
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to clearly synthesize complex or extensive information into actionable insights.
  • Interest in public policy, government procurement, or government affairs.
  • Professional communication and collaboration skills.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and willingness to learn.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Basic PC knowledge.

Preferred:

  • Coursework or experience in sales, public relations, or communication-focused programs.
