Housing Research Intern

Title: Housing Research Intern

Reports To: Manager, Research & Data Analytics

 

Overall Objective                                                                                                                              

The Housing Research Intern will support key research and analytical initiatives by developing dashboards, organizing and interpreting data, and creating tools and materials that enhance understanding of housing affordability, community development, and housing market trends in New Hampshire and beyond. This role contributes to projects that strengthen internal operations while informing public policy, supporting local decision making, and advancing housing education across the state.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the collection, organization, and maintenance of housing and demographic data.
  • Prepare data visualizations, dashboards or tables for internal and public use.
  • Conduct literature reviews and background research on housing policy, affordability, and market trends.
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to support research reports, policy briefs, and presentations.

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities                                                                                      

  • Maintain documentation of data sources, data definitions, and methodology.
  • Help design tools, templates, and educational materials that support housing research and outreach.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, fact sheets, and communication materials for various audiences.
  • Collaborate with team members on projects that enhance internal workflows and data accessibility.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to ongoing research and policy discussions.
  • Other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications – Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read, write and speak English at a proficient level. 
  • Excellent research, analytical, problem-solving, writing, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, management, and external partners.
  • Ability to translate data into insights through effective visualizations using Power BI, ArcGIS, or similar tools.
  • Basic understanding of dashboard design and information visualization principles.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and data integrity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to summarize research findings clearly.
  • Ability to translate data into accessible information for non-technical audiences.

 

Minimum Qualifications – Education & Experience

  • Current graduate student in Public Policy, Urban Planning, Economics, Statistics, Sociology, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with public data sources (e.g., U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey, Housing and Urban Development, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act datasets).
  • Demonstrated experience collecting, managing, and analyzing large, complex datasets using statistical programming languages such as Stata or R.
  • Strong interest in housing policy, community development, affordable housing, urban issues, or related public-service fields.
