Middle School Math Teacher
Job Goals:
To assure that each assigned student is academically successful, behaviorally and socially appropriate, attends full school day regularly, achieves his/her documented academic goals, and demonstrates at least one full year of growth on standardized test measures.
To assure that Liza Jackson Preparatory School achieves or exceeds each charter goal and objective.
To demonstrate leadership, initiative, cooperation and esprit de’corp with colleagues and supervisors in order to accomplish the mission of Liza Jackson Preparatory School.
Qualifications:
Valid Florida Educator Certificate in assigned subject area and/or other appropriate credentials as required for the specific position.
Meet criteria for being deemed a “Highly Qualified Teacher” in Florida, according to the requirements of the Florida Department of Education, and the Florida ESOL requirements appropriate to the subject taught.
Physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing required tasks and duties essential to the position
Knowledge of and commitment to students who have exceptional education needs, academic/social delays, behavioral issues, or are otherwise in need of alternative approaches to education
Classroom Performance Responsibilities:
A. Instruction
1. Adhere to approved curriculum using effective teaching strategies and techniques and demonstrating current content knowledge and pedagogical expertise.
2. Effectively implement SFA and other Board-approved initiatives.
3. Prepare lessons and instructional materials in advance.
4. Submit weekly lesson plans.
5. Maintain prompt and accurate daily attendance reports and grades.
6. Conduct appropriate student evaluations daily, weekly, and end of grading periods and use the data to drive instructional decisions.
7. Submit correct data and reports for LEP, 504 and/or RTI meetings in a timely manner.
8. Administer and supervise standardized testing.
9. Submit all reports, grades and other data accurately and before the deadline.
10. Participate in professional development activities on and off campus to support continued professional growth and improve instructional expertise.
11. Demonstrate effective teaching techniques and implement effective strategies for individual learning styles and academic levels.
12. Provide interesting, challenging, learning activities applicable to real-life situations and appropriate for student’s performance and age level.
B. Classroom Climate
13. Maintain appropriate and effective classroom discipline.
14. Respond to student misbehavior appropriately and in a manner which maintains the student’s dignity.
15. Maintain a positive, supportive classroom environment where students feel safe, secure, and supported.
16. Maintain contact with student’s family/guardians-hold conferences as appropriate.
17. Supervise students on arrival, breaks, departure, at all times.
C. Communication
18. Notify parents of academic/behavioral progress at regular intervals throughout each grading period.
19. Notify student’s parents/guardians when student is habitually absent.
20. Communicate professionally at all times.
D. Other
21. Submit written requests for supplies and equipment.
22. Notify authority in event of emergency-follow Safety/Health Plan.
23. Follow school policies and procedures as established by the LJPS Board.
24. Attend regularly scheduled faculty meetings.
25. Perform assigned arrival and dismissal duties as assigned.
26. Attend/take part in assigned after school duties as assigned.
27. Sponsorship, coaching or other duties as assigned.
28. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Assistant Principal in support of the mission of LJPS.
Responsibilities as a Professional Employee:
1. Maintain professional personal appearance-follow dress code or wear uniform as appropriate.
2. Follow provisions of Employee Manual and Florida Code of Ethics.
3. Attend workshops/training as appropriate to enhance performance of duties.
4. Seek advice when necessary to make appropriate decisions.
5. Use school resources prudently.
6. Evaluate problems objectively and identify appropriate solutions.
7. Be flexible and adapt to changes in order to accomplish the mission of the school.
8. Work and plan with colleagues for mutual learning, planning, use of resources.

12. Be prompt, report to work on time, and remain for the total workday.

14. Demonstrate support of administration, policies, improvement of the school and accomplishment of its mission/goals.
15. Notify appropriate personnel in advance when you must be absent, obtain approval for the absence, and secure a substitute teacher for the class.
16. Demonstrate personal and professional motivation to best serve each individual student as well as the total student body by assuming your responsibility to be sure they learn.
Working Conditions:
The School Year is 196 days for 10 month employees-including 6 paid holidays.
Employment is at-will. This means that either party may terminate employment at any time during the period of appointment without cause or prior notice. In the event of termination by either party prior to the completion of the school year, remuneration shall be based on specific services provided and payment will be made accordingly.
Teachers shall be evaluated annually using the Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching Assessment. Performance Appraisal for teachers is based on classroom observations and the responsibilities for the classroom and as an employee as indicated above. A Professional Development Plan may be included in the evaluation document as warranted.
