Role
We are seeking an Engineering Intern to join our Site Engineering Team. In this role, you will be responsible for engineering operational support. This internship provides hands-on experience in process engineering, plant operations, commissioning and safety. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization committed to innovation, sustainability, and leadership in the clean energy sector.
The role is based at our Thacker Pass production facility office and reports to the Site Engineering Manager. Occasional travel to other LAC offices, project sites, or vendor locations may be required.
Intern Housing & Relocation Support
Housing and a one-time relocation stipend will be provided for the selected intern to support the relocation to the Winnemucca area.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote Lithium Nevada’s safety-first culture through strict compliance with OSHA and MSHA regulations as well as Lithium Nevada’s site-specific safety program. Perform all assigned activities with a safety-first mindset. Promote and foster employee “stop work” authority. Identify, report and mitigate safety hazards and observations as part of daily activities and safety walks. Champion safety standards and promote communication and accountability within all production areas.
- Assist process engineers with monitoring and analyzing plant performance data (mass balances, energy usage, yields, and efficiencies).
- Assist with data collection, documentation, and technical reporting
- Support development and review of PFDs, P&IDs, SOPs, and operating manuals.
- Participate in Management of Change (MOC) and Process Safety Management (PSM) activities.
- Observe and follow all safety, environmental, and quality policies
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, maintenance, EHS, and quality.
- Builds and maintains trusted relationships across all teams while championing a culture that reflects and supports our Purpose, Vision, and Values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Mining Engineering or Metallurgy.
- Completion of at least sophomore-level coursework by start date
- Basic understanding of chemical process principles (material/energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid flow, etc.)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to work safely in an industrial plant and construction environment.
