Community Schools Coordinator

STARTING SALARY: $52,918+ annually (based on experience)

SUMMARY:
Sun Prairie Community Schools is an initiative of the Sun Prairie Area School District and the City of Sun Prairie, focused on developing the whole person through collaboration and strong partnerships. We use a Community Schools strategy to work towards closing the achievement gap, reducing chronic absenteeism, and increasing family connectedness to schools and the greater Sun Prairie community.  Our strategy focuses on:

  • Building relationships and strong partnerships with school staff, families, youth, and community partners
  • Creating engaging and educational environments for youth where they feel listened to and trusted
  • Removing barriers for families to engage in programming
  • Integrating equity-based decision-making into the fabric of the work
  • Regularly identifying priorities of the community to guide decision-making
  • Creating and implementing programming based on data-driven information

The Community Schools Site Coordinator commits to advancing racial and economic equity and inclusion, collaborating, and sharing leadership to facilitate this effort under the supervision of the Community Schools Coordinator, Building Principal, and under the guidance of the Site Leadership Team.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Lead the implementation of the Community Schools strategy at the assigned school, with support from the Community Schools Coordinator, Building Principal, Social Worker, and Site Leadership Team
  2. Facilitate the development of the school's asset map and needs assessment. Continuously engage the community in ongoing assessment.
  3. Facilitate monthly Site Leadership team meetings (administration, school staff, parents, students, community residents, community partner organizations) in partnership with the Community Schools Coordinator and site Principal Guide the Site Leadership Team to create and implement an action plan that is coordinated and aligned with articulated goals for the community school.
  4. Create and oversee the implementation of programs and services by facilitating and monitoring agreements with program and service partners based on data-driven info and school needs.
  5. Maintains participation, attendance records, and other records as appropriate, providing this information to appropriate entities.
  6. Assists in the coordination and implementation of after-school clubs.
  7. Works cooperatively with the school principal to incorporate and adapt the Community Schools strategy to meet the school community's needs and the school district's academic and performance goals as identified in the strategic plan
  8. Coordinate and manage community partnerships and resources in accordance with the Community School Site Plan, including the facilitation of regular meetings and ongoing communication among partners and school staff to ensure effective integration.
  9. Facilitate communication and relationship-building with community partners, key stakeholders, children, families, and volunteers.
  10. Participate in appropriate school and community meetings, community partner organization meetings, and parent organization meetings to ensure strategic communication and alignment
  11. Serve as the key contact person for school staff seeking support or enrichment for students and families.
  12. Develop and maintain a calendar of programming during and beyond the school day for children, families, and the community, including management of all uses by Community School programs and partners of the building after school hours.
  13. Provide training and technical assistance activities to community partners, key stakeholders, school staff, and volunteers as needed.
  14. Monitor and analyze outcomes related to school goals and benchmarks of the community school determined in the Community School Site Plan, such as attendance, student discipline referrals, academic achievement, parental involvement, and program effectiveness.
  15. Support initiative and individual site grant-seeking and other fund development activities, including planning and development of application processes, grant-writing, and training and/or technical assistance in outcome measurement reporting.
  16. Recruits, trains, and manages any staff and volunteers as applicable and in accordance with district policies and practices.
  17. Builds positive relationships with and among staff, volunteers, participants, families, and school administration and creates a supportive community environment.
  18. Attends meetings and professional development sessions as required by the Community Schools Initiative and the School District.
  19. Creates data-driven programs and engagement for families.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience described in the job description.
  • Three years of experience working directly with children and families with a variety of abilities and needs.
  • Must possess a driver's license and reliable transportation as local travel is required.
  • Must possess and maintain within the indicated time frame:
    • CPR/AED and First Aid training within 30 days of start date.
    • Child Abuse Prevention and Bloodborne Pathogens training within 60 days of the start date.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • The ability to effectively interact with, lead, and motivate children, families, and volunteers who have a variety of abilities and needs.
  • Must demonstrate initiative, strong leadership skills, and have the ability and experience to guide staff with a variety of educational and experiential backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of general child growth and development, learning theories, and developmentally appropriate activities for children
  • Preferred experience with all or some: facilitation, data analysis, grant writing, and/or using outcomes in program development, operation, or evaluation is highly desired.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and editing skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy are required.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate decimals and percentages.
  • The ability to organize, prioritize, and manage tasks without direct supervision.
  • Work may be completed in an office setting and will include the frequent use of a computer and other office machinery. Work also involves alternative environments in accordance with programming, such as hallways, parks, gymnasiums, or community rooms at apartment buildings, etc.
  • The ability to work nights and weekends as programming requires.
  • The ability to use technology to accomplish job responsibilities, including a higher level of computer proficiency, such as knowledge of email, word processing, internet search engines, and spreadsheet software.

  • Ability to stand, walk, talk, hear, lift up to 50 pounds, transfer, and move from floor to standing quickly.
  • Ability to stand/walk on uneven surfaces with changing conditions outdoors (grass, hills, playground mulch, paved areas, etc.).
  • The ability to drive and bring items to and from various locations.
