Executive Director
Friendship House is a small, but growing Christian non-profit in the community of Roanoke, Virginia. It seeks to provide ministries of mercy/empowerment and gospel proclamation while connecting its neighbors to the local church.
The Executive Director will have responsibilities that include managing/shepherding the staff & interns, developing and nurturing relationships with gospel-preaching churches, upholding the Statement of Faith, overseeing the budget, and casting a strategic vision alongside the Board of Directors.
The Executive Director will
- Walk in relationship with and care for families in programs while encouraging and guiding staff, interns and volunteers with respect and care in a Christ-like way and in accordance with the Statement of Faith
- Uphold the Statement of Faith with vigilance
- Communicate the Statement of Faith and mission statement with clarity
- Be prepared to teach & pray biblically with participants, staff and volunteers and offer spiritual counsel when appropriate
- Coordinate with staff, volunteers and participants each day to maintain the facility and property as a safe, orderly, clean and attractive environment
- Maintain office duties (such as keeping office hours, answering phones when in office, etc.)
The Executive Director is expected to shepherd the organization and provide direction in 3 primary areas: Program Development, Church and Community Development, and Administration.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
Oversee the operation, staffing and volunteers of current programs, including
Talitha Koum After-School Program
(Volunteers, tutoring, Bible instruction, extra-curricular activities, etc.)
MercyWorks Program
(Food pantry, Blessing Shop, Furniture ministry)
Restoring Hope
(Link2Hope, Faith & Finances, Jobs for Life, Helping Without Hurting, etc.)
Good Neighbor Program
(Refugee houses, English Club, Good Neighbor Teams, Tutoring, etc.)
Seasonal Programs
(Backpack program, Christmas gifts, Holiday food boxes, etc.)
Internships
Academic and Ministry Internships
Evaluate the effectiveness of current programs and periodically consider the development of new programs that fit within Friendship House’s mission statement and staffing capacity
Work with staff to establish and maintain regular volunteer recruitment, training and enrichment
CHURCH AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Church Development
Establish & nurture relationships with local churches by speaking to classes, small groups, & congregational events, meeting with pastors & leadership, scheduling tours of Friendship House, etc. This has the aim to:
Promote the mission of Friendship House
Communicate needs and opportunities for service at Friendship House
Recruit volunteers, donors, and future board members
Develop opportunities to equip and train local churches to effectively serve their community

Establish & maintain healthy relationships with like-minded Christian organizations, with an aim for

ADMINISTRATION
Supervise and evaluate staff
Oversee and delegate the care and maintenance of Friendship House buildings, vehicles, equipment and property
Conduct regular staff meetings (operational and prayer) for direction, solidarity and communication
Attend each board meeting and work in partnership with the Board of Directors, and particularly the officers within the board. Provide regular reports to the board.
Work with the board to cast a vision and long-term goals
Work with the board to establish and oversee policy and procedure, and then work with staff and volunteers to make sure they are carried out effectively
Communicate regularly with the public through means such as the newsletter, mailouts, social media, website, press releases, etc.
Work with the bookkeeper and treasurer to maintain finances and financial records
Ensure payroll and expenses are completed on time
With the board’s guidance and assistance, plan and conduct specific fundraising efforts, such as annual appeals, signature events, and capital campaigns
Ensure that the organization as a whole is operating within local/state/federal laws and regulations
