Lead Teacher (Specialized Program)

Job Title: LEAD TEACHER: SPECIALIZED PROGRAM
Reports to: Administrative Staff
FLSA Status: Contract/ Exempt Status

Summary

The Lead Teacher is the adult who has the primary educational responsibility for the children. Another key role of the Lead Teacher is for the responsibility and understanding and implementing the program’s curriculum and behavior plans. The teacher provides a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment which is educationally sound in developmental practices.


This position reports directly to the Administrative Staff


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Effectively manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environment
  • Use consistent school wide practices and individualized methods to engage students in the classroom
  • Prepare usable and timely lesson plans based on the Ohio State Standards and Extended Standards
  • Assess students on an consistent basis following the curriculum guidelines, using a variety of assessment data to refine curricula and instructional practice
  • Work cooperatively with intervention specialists to modify the general education curricular as necessary, and assist the student with regular class activities.
  • Be responsive to feedback from other team members to provide a well-developed educational plan for all students
  • Communicate regularly with parents and professional staff regarding the educational, social, and personal needs of students.
  • Work cooperatively with others to exchange ideas, attend staff meetings, and provide guidance to assistant teachers in the classroom.
  • Complete necessary reports and record keeping as required by state and local policies and procedures.
  • Monitor the progress of his or her entire caseload, maintains records, and communicates with teachers and parents
  • Manage and orders materials that are necessary for performing job functions
  • Participate in professional growth activities through staff development, in-service, workshops, and higher education.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Staff.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in any area of study
  • Eligibility of application for a Professional Teaching License through ODE and The Golden Key by appropriate background checks and educational transcripts.

  • Is consistently at work and on time; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent. Arrives at meetings and appointments on time. Understands that the need to work extended or after hours may be necessary at times, which can be compensated with overtime or comp time.
