Position Summary:
The Food Director is responsible for overseeing all kitchen activities to ensure the efficient and safe service of meals. This role involves managing staff, coordinating food orders, maintaining compliance with health and safety standards, and collaborating with relevant agencies. The Food Director plays a vital role in supporting the nutritional needs of students and ensuring the quality and safety of all food service operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Order breakfast and lunch supplies weekly to meet student needs.
Prepare and maintain lists of students receiving breakfast and lunch services.
Report monthly meal counts to the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE).
Supervise kitchen staff, including ensuring proper food temperatures are recorded, documentation is maintained, and sanitation standards are followed.
Coordinate and oversee staff training related to food safety, sanitation, and food service procedures.
Manage free and reduced-price meal applications, confirm student eligibility, and report application numbers to MDE annually.
Conduct and participate in kitchen inspections with health authorities twice a year.
Coordinate USDA food purchases with the catering company twice annually to ensure compliance and cost efficiency.
Qualifications:
High school diploma required
Experience in food service preferred
Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
Ability to coordinate with staff, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
Excellent communication and record-keeping abilities.
Work Environment:
This position requires working in a kitchen environment, managing staff, and coordinating with external agencies. The role may involve occasional lifting, standing for extended periods, and adhering to strict health and safety protocols.
