Campaign Intern - Remote or Hybrid

Title: Campaign Intern

Location: Plainfield, New Jersey (with field offices opening across NJ-12) + remote work for out-of-district interns.

Schedule: Part-time, 10-15 hours/week

Compensation: Unpaid; for academic credit

Start Date: Immediate / Rolling

End Date: June 7th

 

About the Role


Mapp for Congress is recruiting Campaign Interns to support a competitive campaign in New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District. Interns will gain hands-on experience in campaign field operations, including voter outreach, volunteer organizing, and event coordination.
 

This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in politics, organizing, or campaign work who are seeking practical experience and mentorship from campaign professionals.
 

This internship provides hands-on campaign experience and the opportunity to be considered for paid roles as the campaign grows. Participation in the internship does not guarantee a paid position.

 

Schedule & Availability

  • Time commitment: 10-15 hours/week.
  • Weekend availability is preferred.
  • Hybrid role. Remote work for out-of-district students. Students residing anywhere in the USA are welcome to apply.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct door-to-door canvassing in assigned neighborhoods and/or participate in phone banks. Interns must be comfortable speaking to voters.
  • Engage voters respectfully and represent the campaign professionally.
  • Accurately record voter responses using campaign software.
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, scheduling, and training.
  • Help coordinate and staff canvass launches, phone banks, and campaign events.
  • Coordinate team engagement activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

  • Comfortable engaging with voters.
  • Reliable transportation (if on-site).
  • Ability to work outdoors and walk for extended periods (if on-site).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

 

Preferred

  • Prior campaign experience.
  • Familiarity with NJ-12 (Union, Somerset, Mercer, and Middlesex Counties).
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills.

 

Academic Credit & Professional Development

  • Academic credit is available depending on your school’s internship requirements.
  • Mentorship from campaign leadership.
  • Letters of recommendation are available for strong performers.
  • Consideration for paid roles if openings arise (not guaranteed).
