As a Narrative Designer / Game Writer Intern, you’ll craft the emotional and narrative backbone of these experiences. You’ll work closely with designers, developers, and artists to shape stories that guide, motivate, and inspire young players—turning educational goals into immersive, character‑rich journeys.
What You’ll Do
You’ll help shape the voice, tone, and emotional impact of Zoo Media’s interactive learning experiences by:
- Writing dialogue, quests, tutorials, and story arcs tailored to youth‑centered, simulation‑style, and creative learning games
- Collaborating with designers, developers, and artists to ensure narrative and gameplay work together seamlessly
- Creating branching storylines, character bios, and world‑building elements that encourage exploration and agency
- Transforming educational objectives into engaging missions, challenges, and narrative moments
- Building emotional hooks and motivational beats into player progression and level design
- Participating in feedback cycles, narrative reviews, and iterative content development
You’ll Learn To
- Script dynamic, interactive stories for simulation, creative learning, and narrative‑driven environments
- Use narrative tools within Unity, Unreal Engine, or visual scripting platforms
- Translate learning goals (e.g., teamwork, financial literacy, creative problem‑solving) into compelling story missions
- Balance entertainment, accessibility, and instructional purpose in youth‑focused digital experiences
- Apply storytelling techniques across multiple formats—from short-form challenges to full narrative worlds
Requirements
- Strong writing skills with a focus on character, dialogue, and story structure
- Ability to adapt tone and voice for different audiences and genres
- Interest in youth development, education, digital storytelling, or interactive media
- Exposure to game writing, screenwriting, journalism, or narrative design concepts
- Comfort working in a collaborative, remote environment
- Availability for virtual meetings:
- Mondays @ 9:00 AM MST
- Wednesdays @ 10:00 AM MST
- Fridays @ 8:00 AM MST
- (Thursdays @ 9:00 AM MST for SkillBridge participants)
Bonus Skills (Not Required, But Valued)
- Experience with Twine, Ink, Yarn Spinner, or other narrative scripting tools
- Background in creative writing, journalism, or screenwriting
- Familiarity with youth media, digital learning, or creative storytelling platforms
- Interest in social, financial, or community‑based storytelling themes
- Experience using AI‑assisted writing tools
