Process Engineering Intern

The purpose of an Engineering Intern position is to provide next generation of engineering entrepreneurs with the tools, training, and coaching needed to determine if a role in manufacturing is what they desire as a career aspiration while also completing assignments important to the site and business in the areas of safety, reliability, process safety, or improvements. The intern assignment will combine important and progressively challenging job assignments to reinforce undergraduate studies.  These assignments will allow for members to learn and develop engineering skills and engage in experiences to enhance their career decision making process.

The assignment will be for May 2026 - December 2026.  

  • Process Safety Valve Documentation:  Assist with field walk-downs, taking pictures of psv’s, drawing piping isometrics, and gathering information on equipment affecting the relief device.  May continue into actual evaluation of process scenarios applicability, and performing psv sizing calculations.  This work is a combination of field work and office work.
  • Perform process safety activities to ensure site compliance with PSM regulations.  This includes performing monthly reporting and facilitating meetings as necessary.
  • Exposure to Alarm Management improvement process & follow-up action items.
  • Learn what it means to “engineer” a solution to manufacturing opportunities.
  • Engineer solutions for maintenance projects & capital projects.  Complete required steps in both maintenance and capital systems to advance and receive project approvals.
  • Think independently, propose solutions, but be able to accept feedback to grow and improve.
  • Applies technical knowledge to detect causes of deviations in quality, capacity, yield, and energy consumption. 
  • Collaborate, talk to people.  Communicate utilizing more than email and texting.
  • Work with team members to determine project scope.
  • Work with planners and schedulers to increase project awareness and advocate for your project to be implemented/installed.
  • Exposure to Process Safety methodologies and completion of tasks.  Learn and execute Management of Change & Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews for process modifications.  
  • Ensure projects focus on improving safety and maintaining environmental compliance. 
  • Learn from exposure to day to day operations of the plant.  
  • Leads and/or participates in root cause analysis studies to resolve plant process and equipment related issues.  
  • Responsible for review and resolution of action items as a result of HES, ISO, Insurance audits and PHA studies.  

Requirements:

  • Chemical Engineering undergraduate. 
  • Must be self-motivated and results oriented.  Self-initiative & GRIT are required.
  • Must be able to exhibit good judgment with excellent attention to detail. 
  • Must have ability to define problems, collect and interpret data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment. 
  • Must be able to work in the US without any type of sponsorship.
