Property Data Collector

The Town of Falmouth seeks a detail-oriented, highly motivated professional to join our Assessing team as a full-time Property Data Collector. This position plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of the property records that directly impact the Falmouth community and help fund essential municipal services. Our Property Data Collectors work independently and collaboratively to collect and verify property information and maintain accurate property records in order to ensure that all Falmouth taxpayers’ property assessments are fair and accurate. This is a full-time, benefited position that works at the Falmouth Town Hall and in the field 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Under the general direction of the Director of Assessing and the Assistant Assessor, Property Data Collectors:

  • Conduct inspections of real estate and personal property, including buildings under construction, to ensure that the Town’s property records are current and accurate, in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws;
  • Collect and verify property data in a standardized, objective manner through field measurements, detailed field observations, and occasionally electronic methods;
  • Review and inspect areas of Town to maintain equalized assessments as required by the Commissioner of Revenue, reporting findings to the Director of Assessing;
  • Enter all data into the Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) system and perform statistical analyses; and
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two (2) years of college-level mathematics and a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in data entry, measurement, and customer service in a professional office setting; or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and must complete required training towards certification in Massachusetts appraisal techniques within two (2) years of hire. Working knowledge of building construction design, the real estate market, and/or municipal experience preferred.

The successful candidate has meticulous attention to detail; strong mathematical and analytical skills; and excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate can resolve potential discrepancies tactfully and work independently with a high degree of accuracy, while collaborating effectively with the rest of the Assessing team.

Expected Starting Range: Step 1 ($30.40/hour) – Step 5 ($35.57/hour), commensurate with qualifications and experience, with room to grow along the 7-step pay scale.
