2026/2027 School Year Head of School (Grade 5/6)

The Head of School oversees the daily operation of a school building by establishing procedures appropriate to the management of all personnel, programs, students and equipment. The Head of School assures a safe and secure school environment that holds high expectations for all students and staff.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

Students and Families

  • Uphold school policies and expectations as outlined in the Parent-Student Handbook
  • Communicate effectively with students and parents regarding any school changes
  • Manage disciplinary infractions and appropriate consequences
  • Engage families in school activities such as Open House
  • Oversee and implement the 504 process
  • Run quarterly awards ceremonies for students
     

Faculty and Staff

  • Oversee staff attendance including requests for leave
  • Arrange coverage of classes and substitute teachers
  • Write and distribute a daily morning memo
  • Conduct walkthroughs and provide timely feedback to staff
  • Analyze, interpret, and disseminate assessment data as part of the RTI process
  • Conduct formative and summative evaluations
  • Assist teachers in writing effective SMART Goals
  • Lead monthly building staff meetings
  • Lead professional development sessions
  • Review lesson plans weekly and provide feedback
  • Collaborate with other members of administration team to ensure effective instruction for all students
     

Management and Logistics

  • Design class schedules and assign rooms
  • Manage maintenance and tech requests
  • Create testing schedules for MAP, MCAS, etc.
  • Participate in the hiring process
     

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Education Administration or related field (required)  
  • Massachusetts Principal/Assistant Principal license (required)
  • Evidence of strong management and leadership capabilities
  • Commitment to the goals and mission of LFDCS
  • Experience in an urban education setting
  • Excellent organization and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Skilled with the use of technology and digital instructional platforms
     

Schedule: Extended School-Year Position, 205 days

Reports To: Principal
