DEPARTMENT: Information Technology

HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8am-5pm

LOCATION: City Hall - 632 W 6th Ave, 4th Floor


 

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Example of Duties

 

 

The Desktop Engineer, under general direction, will apply analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT system investments. Responsible for both the configuration and operation of system tools used to manage the Microsoft Windows desktop infrastructure, application packaging, and desktop compliance. Monitors system performance for accuracy, efficiency, and recommends technical upgrades. Provides technical advice, guidance and informal training to both coworkers and customers. Acts as primary point of escalation for Office of Information Technology (OIT's) Direct Services team of nine when technical issues exceed their scope of knowledge or skill set. Lead teams of two or three member in support of OIT project efforts
 

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

 

 

 

High school diploma, GED or equivalent and eight (8) years of experience in the field related to the position.

OR

Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or a related discipline and six (6) years of experience in the field related to the position.

OR

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline and four (4) years of experience in the field related to the position.

OR

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, a related discipline and two (2) years of experience in the field related to the position.

Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.

Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check within 30 days of hire
