Camp Counselor

Position Type: Seasonal

Camp Duration: June 15, 2026 – August 28, 2026
Camp Counselors will commit to 6, 8, 10, or 11 weeks and provide which weeks they are available.

Camp Hours Available:

  • Partial Day: 8:30/9:00 AM – 1:30/2:00 PM
  • Full Day: 8:30/9:00 AM – 3:30/4:00 PM

Pay Rate: $15.92 per hour

About Us

Edgewood Summer Camp is a well-established, high-energy sports day camp serving children ages 4–12, at Edgewood Golf & Recreation in River Vale, NJ. This camp emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence-building through athletics, group games, swimming, and creative activities in a fun, supportive environment.

Position Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic, responsible, and energetic Camp Counselors who enjoy working with children in an active, outdoor setting. Counselors lead games and age-appropriate activities, keep campers engaged, and work as part of a team under the guidance of a Senior Counselor and the Camp Director. We welcome candidates studying or experienced in education, sports or exercise science, coaching, athletics, art, dance, music, or theatre. Preschool or early childhood aides interested in working with younger campers are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and engage groups of up to 20 campers, ensuring a safe, active, and fun experience.
  • Create an inclusive and supportive environment by fostering positive interactions with campers and fellow counselors.
  • Lead activities and develop creative, age-appropriate games for your designated group.
  • Participate in camp programs and lead by example with enthusiasm and positive energy.
  • Oversee smooth transitions between activities and maintain a structured daily schedule.
  • Ensure safety during pool time and enforce aquatic rules.
  • Assist with clean-up after activities and work together as a team to maintain camp areas.
  • Supervise lunch periods and ensure cleanliness in the lunch area.
  • Enforce camp policies and safety standards, adhering to NJ state regulations.
  • Communicate any camper concerns to the Senior Counselor and/or Camp Director.
  • Be available to assist with other tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Previous experience in an outdoor camp or recreational setting is preferred.
  • Experience working with children in a school, recreational, or sports environment is preferred.
  • High school diploma required; college coursework in education, sports, or a related field is a plus.
  • Current physical exam valid for the full duration of camp.
  • Successful completion of background check, including employment verification and current professional references, required.
  • CPR certification preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and actively participate in physical activities with children, including sports, games, and movement-based programming.
  • Must be flexible, proactive, and capable of engaging children in diverse activities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team collaboration skills.
  • A genuine passion for fostering a positive, fun camp experience.
