Paralegal
Job Description

Two attorney law firm in West Ashley seeking a full-time paralegal to begin right away. Practice is generalized, mostly consists of personal injury, medical malpractice, workers’ compensation, prisoners’ rights, and criminal defense. Cases in both state and federal court. Candidates can expect to be involved in the day-to-day management of cases. Position may also include light personal assistant and accounting duties as required. Hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Compensation is negotiable based on experience, and subject to increase based on performance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Maintain both paper and electronic copies of case files as records/documents are obtained.

Keep client files organized so that documents/records can be easily accessed when necessary.

Manage office calendar and schedule court appearances, depositions, mediations, client meetings, and various telephone conferences, including coordinating with other offices as required.

Request medical records from client healthcare providers, and submit FOIA requests in cases involving government agencies.

File pleadings and motions, and serve opposing counsel with discovery requests and formal correspondence.

Organize documents, records, and media for production.

Communicate with clients to ensure paperwork is completed and payment is received, provide clients with periodic updates on the status of their cases.

Assist in preparation for hearings and trials, including preparation of trial binders and submissions to the court for in camera review.

Prepare demand packages for submission to insurance adjusters.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Four-year college degree preferred, but not required.

Two-year associate's degree required or 5 years paralegal experience.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Stellar organizational skills.

Detail-oriented and efficient.

Ability to work independently and with minimal oversight.

Prior experience in law office is a plus.

Familiarity with Clio or other cloud-based case management software is preferred.

Familiarity with federal and state E-filing systems is helpful, and prior experience with Pacer is a plus.

Ability to learn and apply skills effectively in absence of prior experience.
