Position Description
The County of Fresno invites applications for the position of Legal Assistant. Incumbents work with legal documents, terminology, and processes. Responsibilities include creating legal files, checking documents for completeness and conformance to legal specifications, entering data into legal databases, and preparing case files for attorneys.
The current vacancies exist within the Fresno County District Attorney's Office. However, the eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions in other departments as vacancies occur.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must qualify under one (1) of the options listed below:
OPTION 1:
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time, paid clerical work experience.
OPTION 2:
Experience: One (1) year of paid work experience as a District Attorney, Probation, or Sheriff’s Student Worker with Fresno County.
OPTION 3:
Education: Completion of thirty (30) semester units of coursework that is acceptable within the United States’ accredited college or university system.
In addition to the options listed above, the following may also be required:
License: Possession of a valid class “C” driver's license, or equivalent, may be required.
Other: Depending on the hiring department’s needs, the ability to type thirty (30) net words or more per minute may be required.
As a condition of employment, some departments may require candidates to undergo and pass a thorough and detailed personal background investigation. These investigations include employment/credit histories, verification of education, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive; other relevant areas may be investigated and verified.
