Position Summary
The Occupational Therapist provides treatment to support development, rehabilitation, and functional independence for individuals experiencing physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges.
This role focuses on restoring and enhancing daily function through individualized treatment planning, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The position serves diverse patient populations and requires demonstrated competency appropriate to the individuals served.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy
- Current Occupational Therapy license in good standing in the State of Michigan
- BLS certification required within 3 months of hire
- Clinical experience preferred
Driving Requirement (if applicable)
- Valid Michigan driver’s license
- Reliable vehicle available for business use
- Proof of valid auto insurance
- Successful Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check prior to start date
- Employees are responsible for maintaining current insurance documentation and updating vehicle information as applicable.

Clinical Responsibilities
- Interpret and implement therapy referrals
- Evaluate functional status and therapeutic needs using standardized assessments
- Establish functional baselines and individualized treatment plans
- Set patient care goals and estimate treatment duration
- Provide direct patient care according to treatment plans
- Educate patients, families, and community members
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care planning
- Design and fabricate splints or assistive devices as needed
- Support program development and process improvement initiatives
- Serve as a clinical resource and provide educational in-services
- Cross-train and provide coverage across Rehabilitation Services as needed
Administrative Responsibilities
- Document evaluations, treatment plans, interventions, and patient progress accurately and timely in the electronic health record
- Communicate documentation barriers to leadership promptly
- Maintain accurate, legible, and complete patient records
- Participate in committees, task forces, and quality improvement initiatives
- Demonstrate effective time management
- Supervise COTAs, Rehab Clinical Assistants, OT students, COTA students, volunteers, and athletic trainers
- The Occupational Therapist is responsible for maintaining and advancing professional competencies based on patient populations served, type of care provided, and evolving healthcare practices.
Physical and Work Environment
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Lifting and moving equipment or assisting patients up to 50 pounds
- Occasional heavier physical effort including pushing or pulling
- Frequent deadlines and computer use
- Some physical strain and repetitive motion
