Student Social Media Assistant

Office of Global Engagement – Oakland University

Position Summary

The Student Social Media Assistant will support the Office of Global Engagement by creating, curating, and managing digital content across our social media platforms. This role is ideal for a creative, globally minded student who is passionate about storytelling, intercultural engagement, and digital communication. The assistant will help elevate the visibility of international programs, student experiences, and global initiatives at OU.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop engaging content (posts, stories, reels, graphics) for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other platforms
  • Capture and edit photos/videos at Global Engagement events and activities
  • Maintain a consistent posting schedule aligned with office priorities and seasonal campaigns
  • Monitor engagement metrics and suggest strategies to grow audience reach
  • Collaborate with staff to promote ESL programs, international student services, study abroad, and global partnerships
  • Stay current on social media trends and recommend creative approaches for student engagement

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled Oakland University student (undergraduate or graduate)
  • Strong writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other design tools preferred
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and analytics
  • Interest in international education, global cultures, or student affairs
  • Reliable, organized, and able to work independently

Position Details

  • Hours: 10–15 hours per week (flexible around class schedule)
  • Location: On-campus
  • Compensation: Hourly student wage per university guidelines
