Pre-Medical 2-year GAP Year Clinical Program at Physician Office
Private Neurologist Office in Glenview Illinois
Two year committment; We work monday thru Thursday 8:30am-5 pm
Clinical experience with opportunity for clinical research to assist in getting into medical school
First 6 months
Role similar to medical Receptionist
Patient Coordination of appointments
Learn about insurances, perform prior authorization
Check in/out patients
Administrative duties: fax, scan, talk to other physician offices, obtain medical records
Screen patient calls as to which you address and which need appointments
Obtain training how to obtain vitals
Perform screening questionairre for depression, anxiety, ADHD
Second 6 months
Role similar to medical assistant
Obtain patient vitals
Perform Montreal Cognitive Assessments on memory patients
Learn how to administer B12 shots
Learn how to apply medical Tens unit
Learn how to obtain specific Neurological histories for headaches, neuromuscular complaints, parkinson's, dementia, dizziness
Learn how to write a medical history
Call pharmacies for patient prescriptions
Last 12 months
Role similar to a physician assistant/medical resident
Assigned your own patients who see you for all visits and calls
Obtain their medical history, create their note documentations, present the case to doctor, review test results with her, see patient with her, complete patient note, place study orders under supervision
Work with pharmacies, drug reps, sleep companies, imaging facilities, other specialist offices to coordinate patient care
Obtain genetic samples for testing
Counseling of patient's and families
There is Neurology, Psychiatry, and Internal Medicine Lectures here
We see interesting cases that can be written up
We typically either poster on orally present at Illinois Neurological Society each year
We have lunch meetings learning about different conditions and medications
You may work with 3rd or 4th year medical students and International MDs performing rotations
This is a paid position, however it pays between 15-18 dollar an your dependent on which stage you are in; that mean you need to be able to afford to live on 2000-2500/month income so this may financially restrict out of state applicants
Typically morning coffee and lunch is provided
We have 4 (four) Interns at different stages of above
At end of two years it is as if you went through accelerated 3rd and 4th year medical school which sets you apart from all other medical student candidates

- If there are specific times you need off
- City where you reside
- Future intention: medical school, dental school, Vet, PA, PhD
- When are you taking the MCAT, if taking the MCAT
- When available for a phone interview
Of note, all our prior graduates are either in medical school or residency at present time
